Dienhart’s Successor. & Brother Agatho, C. S. C., Cathedral High School principal, nounced from Notre Dame today that five members of the faculty - and the school authorities had selected Joe Harmon as coach and instructor in physical education to fill the post vacated by Joe Dienhart. The selection was made after long and careful consideration had been given to other local applicants, he added. Harmon was a member of the first graduating class at Cathedral, June, 1921. While at Cath 1 he played football, basketball and ball. He played center on the first foothall team Cathedral ever had, which was coached by Al Feeney.
Played Under Rockne
After leaving Cathedral Harmon entered Notre Dame in the fall of 1921. During his college days he played the same three sports, being a member of the famous 1924 eleven coached by Knute Rockne during the heyday of the Four Horsemen. The 1924 Notre Dame team defeated Stanford, 27 to 10, in the Rose Bowl. After graduation Harmon went to St. Xaviers’ High School, Louisville, in the fall of 1925 as football coach, remaining there for seven years in that capacity. He is married and has four children.
