PORKERS REACH NEW 1338 HIGH
200 to 210-Pound Hogs Go To $10.30; Receipts. Are Light.
The most uneven trade in months featured limited suplies of around 800 hogs here today, aceorging to the Bureau of Agricultural Economics. Holding out until a late 2 hour for a recovery from yesterday’s losses on heavy hogs, trading finally wound up anywhere from ‘5 to 30 cents- higher. Weights from 160 to 240 pounds were up 5 to 25 cents, with heavier averages 15 to 30 cents higher. Light lights from 160 pounds down advanced 25 cents. An extreme top of $10.30 was reached on 200 to 210 pounds, a new high mark for the year to date. Not enough packing sows were on hand to definitely establish values. Receipts of only 50 - cattle here were insufficient to make a*market. Compared with the close last week, current values on strictly good and choice fed steers and yearlings are steady to strong, with other grades weak to 25 cents lower. Heifers are mostly 25 cents lower, choice grades being scarce throughout the week. Bulls are weak to 25 cents lower,
vealers steady and stockers and
feeders 25 cents lower. Top steers this week ‘reached $12.50, with bulk of the good and choice kinds from $9.75 to $11 and plain and medium sorts $7 to $9.60. Best heifers sold at $10.25, with bulk of the fed crop from $8 to $10. The late practical top on vealers was $9.50, with a few selects reaching $10. Sheep receipts today numbered only 25 head, leaving the market without a test. For the week, spring lambs show gains of mostly 50 cents, with other classes scarce and unchanged. The late top on choice ewe and wether lambs was $9, with the week’s bulk of good and choi grades moving from $8 to $9. Buc were usually sorted out at a di count of 50 cents to $l. cleared from $2 to $3 mostly.
