Softball Play Deadline Near

600 Teams Expected to Enter State Tourney.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. July 22 (U. P.).—With the deadline set for noon July 31, entries today began pouring in to managers in virtually every section of the state for the sixth annual Indiana softball tournament. Approximately 600 teams are expected to enter the contest. Thirty-five sectional tournaments will be held in Indiana, starting Aug. 17, according to Jack Ledden of South Bend, state commissioner of the Amateur Softball Association. Eight regional tournaments will be held Aug. 20 and 21, and two semifinals Aug. 27-28, and the state finals Sept. 3, 4, and 5. The state winner will play in the National Tournament at Soldiers Field in Chicago on Sept. 7 to 11. Northern division sectionals will be played at Hammond, East Chicago, Gary, Rensselaer, Michigan City, Elkhart, Butler, Ft. Wayne, Knox, Plymouth, Logansport, Bluffton, Wabash, Kokomo, Lafayette, Tipton and South Bend.
