Indiana Get Aid, Says | McMurray. J]
The State Board of Education in- | | spection committee today { examined materials submitted 41 firms for approval for State-aid school corporations Included w e r e encyclopedias, dictionaries, maps, charts, globes | and atlases. A total of 524 of the 1180 school | corporations in the State receive aid | | in buying school supplies, according to Floyd I. McMurray, State Super- | | intendent of Public Instruction. | They are located in 79 of the 92 | counties, and include 487 townships, | 22 towns and 15 cities. These are school corporations | whose total income is not sufficient | to provide adequate equipment. | Corporations must levy 50 cents for { supply purposes and the State | makes up the difference. Last year, this form of school aid totaled $3,187.835, | McMurray said. He said this figure exceeded the previous year but | there were fewer corporations aided. | This year, he said, the tendency is | for less aid to towns and cities, but { more to townships Recommendations of the in-| spection committee, which is assisted by representatives of Purdue, and Indiana universities, Ball State and Indiana State Teachers colleges | | will be submitted to the Board for | approval | in September.
