Bonds Higher: Grains Soar 2 Cents.

NEW YORK, July 12 (U.P.).—]| Markets shook off their lethargy to- | day and resumed their advance over | a broad front. Stocks more than made up losses | of the previous session. aviations started the rise. horts Were run in and trading picked up. Bonds moved railroad issues. Meanwhile, the sharp upturn in corn prices carried wheat more than 2 cents on the Chicago Board of Trade, with strength in outside markets and rust reports from the Northwest lending further support to the market. At the close wheat was up 2% to 214, July 73%. Corn was up 2% to 2%, July 603%, and oats were 13 to 1 higher, July 27%. Hedge selling and scattered sales due to the bearish Government crop report depressed wheat prices at the start. Mill buying aided the upturn, and some short covering was noted. Cotton turned strong. Sugar futures soared on outlook for cuts in international quotas. Hides made substantial gains

Hogs Register 15-Cent Rise, Hit 1938 High

Hog prices rose to $10.15 today to register a new high mark for the year, the Bureau of Agricultural Economics reported. The new peak was reached in a 15-cent higher trade on hogs scaling above 160 pounds. Lighter weights and pigs held only steady. Good and choice 200 to 210-pound

averages remained popular at the top of $10.15. Packing sows were uneven, comprising mostly medium and light offerings which sold to best advantage in a steady to 15cent higher trade from $7.60 to $8.50. Some sales of extremely heavy sows above 550 pounds were reported lower, ranging downward to $7.25 Receipts of 3200 cattle, one of the largest runs of the vear to date, consisted of about 65 loads of steers and yearlings grading mostly good and choice, and approximately 15 loads of heifers. Better grades of steers and yearlings sold actively at steady rates, with a few cars of medium grade slow and weak. Fed heifers ruled strong, with medium shotfeds up most, and grassers unchanged. All grades of cows held steady with bulls strong to higher.

A new season’s top of $12 was paid for three cars of choice 1153-pound steers. About 30 loads steers sold for $11 or above. Best 732 and 738pound heifers scored $10.50, other good fed heifers $9.75 to $10.25.

Vealers cleared at steady figures, with the top at $9.50.

Spring lambs rose 25 cents to a top of $9.50 in a general way. Good and choice springers sold from $9.25 to $9.50, with lower grades downward to $7, mostly $7.50 up. A load of good around 90-pound yearlings cleared at $7. Slaughter ewes were unchanged at $2.75 down
