NEW GROUP TO AID DEMOCRACY FORMED

‘Hoover, Thomas, Landon Join in Movement.

NEW YORK, June 9 (U. P).— A new organization, “National Rededication,” announced today that it had enlisted a group of prominent Americans to combat “alien revolutionary forces that have destroyed liberty in many of the leading na-

tions.” Members of the executive com-

mittee of the nonpartisan society include Herbert Hoover, William Green, Norman Thomas, Alf M. Landon, James Truslow Adams, Walter Damrosch, James W. Davis, the Rt. Rev. John A. Ryan, Matthew Woll, William Allen White and Owen D. Young. James R. Garfield, former Secretary of the Interior, is acting chairman of the organization which has headquarters here. “The glorification of violence and the resurgence of racial and religious intolerance are everywhere endangering democracy,” a statement from the organization said. “The only answer to a militant autocracy is a democracy, informed, united, revitalized and aflame.” The committee said it planned to carry out its work through the press, radio, churches, scho2ls and motion | pictures. It said it would conduct | a six months’ educational campaign on the significance of liberty.

BROTHER AND SISTER DIE IN SUICIDE PACT

Prefer Death “to W ‘to Way Things Are at Present.’

ADRIAN, Mich. June 9 (U. P.) — Lyle Ward, 18, and his 17-year-old sister, Heloise, who was graduated from high school only last week, preferred death to the “way things are at present,” so they joined hands and died in a tightly-sealed, gasfilled automobile. That was the story police evolved today after their bodies were found. They had lived with grandparents since the divorce of their parents 14 years ago. since Sunday. A note said they were “sorry” but the “way things are life isn’t worth living.” They were known to have been

father and mother. The father is Harold Ward, the mother now is Mrs. Donald Webert. Police said a garden hose was attached to the car's exhaust outlet and run through a window into the front seat.
