Near t charged through cage title two state's best high are to gather for their scrap. Trials begin at 10 a. m. and the | finals start at 1:30 p. m. Two races will be run in the 440, | 880 and mile, each one counting | for place points. Scoring will be | 5 4 3, 2 and 1 in all events except | the two relay races, in which Pe will count twice as much. - The Northsiders will rely mainly | upon those heavy points in, the | mile and 880 relays. They have two of the fastest quartets of baton | carriers in the state. Only Tech of Indianapolis and Horace Mann of Gary have posted faster times in | the longer race, and it might easily | be a blanket finish. There's none | better than their four 220 men in the 880. the rocketing half-miler, | and Wyss, flashy 440 sprinter, undoubtedly will pick Ww points in | their events, and Letkey has an | even chance of copping the mile. Regedanz, North Side's field star, | probably will place in the shotput | or broad jump. North Side has 14 | men qualified. Spotted a step behind the Ft. Wayne team are Froebel of Gary, Technical of Indianapolis, Hammond and Kokomo, the defending champion. Have Star Broad Jumper | Kokomo is almost sure of two | firsts. “Javsee” Frazier is the best broad jumper in the state and might crack the state record of 23 | feet 3: inch. In previous meets he | has leaped more than 22 feet 7. | Heim of South Bend Central and Williams of Muncie will be his touzhest opposition Defending champion Paul Des- | camps meets two top-flight Gary | athletes in the pole vault. They | are Brown of Froebel and Destefano of Emerson. Both have cleared 12 feet 6 inches, an inch below the Kokomo star's best vault. The state record is 12 feet 10. Other records in danger are the 120-yard high hurdles and 440. | Egbert of Lew Wallace, Gary, has topped the sticks in 14.7 seconds, .2 second under the state mark. The | only men close to Egbert are Williams of Muncie and Wilkinson of Broad Ripple. 440 Promises Thrills
The quarter-mile will be a dogfight. Dalrymple of Tech, who has traveled the distance in 50.5 and is improving with every meet, is conceded first and will be gunning for the record of 493. Other outstanding 440 men are Pollett and Papias of Hammond, Beck of New Albany, Pruett of Bedford, Gray of Garfield, Terre Haute, and Turley | of Corydon. Another speedy field will take the | marks in the dashes. Geiger of New | Richmond and Dinehart of Elkhart have taken the century in 10 flat, but the main worry is Piel of Shortridge, Indianapolis, who hasn't been defeated this season. Hardesty and Aparks of Bloomington and Darius of Wiley, Terre Haute, might surprise the field. The same men are in the furlong. Kemp of North Side, Ft. Wayne, has made the best 880 mark. At the Northeastern Conference meet he set a record of 2:00.1. However, Lantz of Ft. Wayne Central defeated him in the sectional last week in 2:00.8. Pruett of Bedford, Million of Monticello, Yates of Anderson, and Kaminski of Roosevelt, East Chicago, have been under 2:05. The low hurdles will have five entries who have clipped the barriers in less than 24 seconds. The result should be a tossup between Bob Kersey of Washington, Indianapolis; R. Zoller of New Albany, Egbert of Lew Wallace, Smith of Fairmount and Britton of Crawfordsville.

R'™» as a “dark horse” team this year, Shortridge will defend its state high school golf title tomorrow on the Speedway course as 176 shotmakers try for team and individual honors. The first foursome is to
tee off at 8 a. m.
Coach Simon P. Roache today announced the Blue Devil lineup as
follows: Bob Henion; No. 3, Charles Owens; No. 4, Dick Gilliom. In last year's meet the Shortridge linksmen carded a team total of 831 to beat Morton of Richmond with Central of South Bend and Lafayette tied for third on ards. ™ we're right, we'll hold our jown,” Coach Roache said today. “But I think were kind of a dark horse.”
Dale Morey of Martinsville toured the course last year in 72 for low medalist honors. Among the strongest contenders for the team title this year are Seymour, Columbus, Tech of Indianapolis and Franklin. Dan Cravens of Franklin is given a good chance to carry away individual honors. In a match early this month on the Hillview course at Franklin, Cravens shot a T0—two over the course record—and led his Franklin teammates to a 11-to-4 victory over the Shortridge team. Tt was the second time this season that Franklin had beaten the Blue Devils,

HE annual coal dealers tournament was held at the Speedway course yesterday. The field of 28 was greeted on the first tee by a five-piece band and as each player teed off he was serenaded by one of his favorite swing tunes. Charles Merrick of the Muesing-Merrick Coal Co. stole the show when he took six shots to get his ball a hundred yards off the first tee. There were several other players who found it difficult to get off the first tee under the circumstances. But Harold Cork, John McGuire, Nelson Marks and Charles Brockman liked the idea and hit four of the longest and best balls of the afternoon. » o o
The tournament for the Speedway race drivers, mechanics and owners slated for yesterday was postponed on account of rain. The boys were to try again today.

HE Indianapolis Public Links Association is to meet tonight for a reconsideration of the schedule of play for this year's city amateur tournament. According to the original schedule presented to the Park Board this week, competition was to have started July 3 at South Grove. Since this date would conflict with the big holiday crowds on the public courses, the board asked the association to move back a week the events scheduled for July 3 and 4. Tonight's meeting, thererore, nfay mean a complete change in the tournament schedule. John L. Niblack, chairman of the subcommittee arranging for use of the city’s links, said today he expected about 150 entrants for the qualifying round. Last year when the I. P. L. A. staged its first city championship, 102 entered. Bernie Bray was the winner.
BALL STATE BOWS TO GREYHOUNDS, 7-4
Times Special MUNCIE, May 20.—Indiana Central had added another victory today, having defeated Ball State College at baseball here yesterday, 7 to 4. Helped by the Cardinals’ loose infield play, the greyhounds scored three runs in each of the first two innings. Wasson got a home run with one on for Ball State in the fourth as Linville and Hose collided in deep right center trying to field the ball. The score:

O’Mahoney and Thesz Matched
When Danno O'Mahoney, 227, Ireland, comes to Sports Arena next Tuesday night he will find himself facing Louis Thesz, 226, St. Louis wrestling ace. They top the outdoor mat card of the Hercules
A. C. The match, listed as a “natural,” brings together two voung stars and former world's champions. O'Mahoney, exponent of the “Irish whip” hold, tossed Jim Londos to gain the title and is the only matman to defeat Londos in the last eight years. Danno, a fast, clever per= former, is 25. Thesz holds two vic tories over Everett Marshall, the only defeats for Everett in three years. Louie is 22 years old. Promoter Lloyd Carter views the tussle as a tossup because of past performances of the two. He figures it as one of the best he has staged here in some time. George (Cry Baby) Zaharias, 241, Colorado, meets Ernie Dusek, 235, Nebraska, in a special semiwindup. Silent Rattan, 178, local deaf mute, also will be on the card.
