THURSDAY, MAY 19,
FREIGHT GROUP T0 BE HEADED BY TOWNSEND
Representatives of Indiana Industry Will Protest Rail Rate Cut.
Governor Townsend will head a delegation of Indiana industrial representatives which is to oppose a petition by Southern shippers for lower freight rates at an ICC hearing in Buffalo July 12, it was announced today. The petition seeks reduction in transportation costs from the South to the North, but asks that southbound rates be maintained at their present levels. Following a conference with the Governor yesterday, lopeter, Indiana Chamber of Commerce traffic director and Central States Defense Committee chairman, said: “We will not object to the industrial development of Southern states in a normal and natural manner. But we believe they should have no artificial advantage such as decreased freight rates. “If they are to be relieved of any part of their distribution costs, we will ask that ours be cut proporvionately.”
Petition by Eight Governors
The Buffalo hearing is to be for the convenience of Northern industries that may care to be represented, he said. Original hearings were held at Birmingham in April. The petition was filed by the Governors of eight Southern states last May. Mr. Hollopeter declared no ruling on the petition may be expected for a year after the close of the Buffalo hearing. The procedure calls for a third hearing to allow rebuttal by the Southern interests, then issuance of a recommended order by Interstate Commerce Commissioner William S. Lee, who is hearing the case. The commissioners hold oral arguments on a recommended order and shortly afterward announce their decision. Attending the State House conference yesterday with Mr. Hollopeter were William Arnett, State Chamber of Commerce director, and Perry McCart, Indiana Public Service Commission chairman. Mr. McCart is to accompany Governor Townsend to Buffalo and act as his attorney at the hearing. Previously the Governor had sent delegates to the Southern hearing at Birmingham to cross-examine witnesses and gather information for his testimony at Buffalo.
Affected Industries
Industries in Indiana affected by the case are stove, furniture, building stone, paper products, enamelware, excelsior and cast iron hardware, Mr. Hollopeter said. His Central States Defense Committee represents those interests in Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin and Indiana.
To substantiate his argument that Southern industry needs no “artificial stimulation” in the form of lower shipping rates, he said he will cite the case of the stove industry, quoting statistics of the U. S. Department of Commerce. The stove industry in Tndiana
employed 1424 wage earners in 1927
and 127% in 1935, the number decreasing 10 per cent, records show. Over the same period in the states of Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee, where the Southern stove industry is concentrated, employment increased from 3518 to 5579, or 58 per cent,
Local Traffic Managers Attend Convention
Traffic managers of three local industrial plants were at a shippers conference at Chicago today in preparation for an ICC hearing in Washington, June 8, at which they will testify against a petition for increased trucking rates. H. A. Hollopeter, Indiana Chamber of Commerce traffic director, who has organized opposition to the petition in five central states, was heading the local delegation at the Chicago conference. Traffic managers attending were B. M. Angell of Stokely Bros. & Co., Ray Stoelt-

2 NONSTOP FLIERS HEAD PLANE NORTH
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., May 19 (U. P.) —Kenny Kress and Glen Englert, attempting a nonstop, round-trip flight from Newark, N. J. to Miami, Fla., headed toward Raleigh, N. C. early today on their return trip. Flying a tiny Piper Cub of 50 horsepower, they planned to refuel over Raleigh and then fly directly to Newark. They refueled in the air over the airport here before heading north. Kress and Englert circled over Jacksonville all night because of poor visibility reports from along the Atlantic seaboard. Their little
plane was not equipped for blind flying. They left Newark at 4 a. m,, yesterday and refueled at Raleigh and Jacksonville, arriving over Miami at 2:30 .fter several hours delay because of fog and smoke from forest fires.
Governor Town-
ing of Ely Lilly & Co. and Roy L. Ramsey of Inland Container Corp. The petition, filed with the ICC by the Motor Carriers’ Association of Chicago acting for its members throughout the Midwest, asks that minimum rates for trucking be established to equal the maximums of recently increased railroad rates, according to Mr. Hollopeter.

Aching Muscles Made Torture of Local Meat Dealer's Job
Could Hardly Get Around Sometimes — But Declares He Now Feels Like New Man Since Relief by Natex.
If through long suffering from constipation, with indigestion, lack of appetite and loss of sleep, you have become a prey to so-called rheumatic aches, headaches and other symptoms, visit the Natex representative at Haag's Claypool Hotel Drug Store, Illinois and Washington Sts, and learn what this full-strength medicine has done for so many others who suffered in this way. Natex may be able to help you just as it did Mr. Harry Rodocker, respected meat dealer living at 4512 E. 38th St., who says: “It seems as though I'd always been constipated, but it wasa't until here in the past four years that my other ailments almost got me down, My body seemed simply to be chockfull of what I thought to be rheumatism. Arms, legs and muscles were so stiff, sore and achy that sometimes I could hardly get around at all to take care of my customers. I had no strength or energy, either, and my nerves had reached a ragged edge. “So many medicines ‘had failed to help me that it was like grasping at a straw when I started on Natex. “But this compound showed itself to be exactly what I needed for relief. Now, though I've taken it only a very short time, it’s had my bowels moving like a charm from the very outset. As my became more active and

And. as if this alone weren't worth many, many times the small cost of Natex, my nerves have quieted, and I have a brand-new feeling of strength and energy. I hope many others who are suffering as I once did will benefit by my experience and start on Natex without delay.” Give this compound made chiefly from nature’s roots and herbs the chance to help you, too. It is sold by all Haag Neighborhood Drug Stores and the Natex representative invites all local people to visit him personally at Haag’s Claypool Hotel Drug Store, Illinois and See him,
