an occasion critical pondering, not only because | many players are short of their highest development, but because the standard of performance was | surprisingly high Since Mr. Triggs is one-half of | the best-known American two- | piano team, it goes without saying that he konws the business of duo-| pianism Not only that, but he fires his students with an enthusiastic vitality of playing. Last night they caught a great deal of his skill as well as his spirit. As a pianist | Mr. Triggs has an abundance of both these qualities, so success was | guaranteed. Recital Presented By Organists' Guild
likewise pleas-
| { | | | { |
Less ebullient, but ing, was the organ recital by Edwin Arthur Kraft, who was presented by the American Guild of Organists’ Indiana chapter in the Tabernacle Presbyterian Church last | night | Organ recitals have heen rare | things this season, but last night's | soloist almost made up for the lack with an execeedingly generous program. Mr. Kraft is a widely known performer Organist and choirmaster of Cleveland's Trinity Cathedral and Director of Music at Lake Erie College, Painesville, O., he brought with him a deserved reputation as a skilled and sound musician.
Bach Comes Later
To prove that Bach need not | necessarily be lead-off man on every organ program, Mr. Kraft began with treatments of German chorales bv Karg-Elert, Reger and Edmundson. Then, after his own transscription of a slight ‘Beethoven Minuet, he proceeded to a Prelude and Fugue in G by the acknowledged master, Bach himself. After that there was music by Weitz, Floyd, Vierne, Dethier, Elgar, raulkes, Whitlock and Lanquetuit. Bach naturally was the occasion’s hero, and some of the other selections sounded pretty thin in comparison,
