MORGAN LAUDS HEALTH WORK IN KINDERGARTENS

City Health Secretary Lists Diseases Abated With | Societies’ Help.

As the Indianapolis Free Kinder- | garten Socety prepared to observe | Child -Health Day Thursday and | Friday, Dr. Herman G. Morgan, | Health Board secretary, praised Indianapolis’ preschool health pro- | gram. | “This feature of health work has | played a very important role in the reduction of illness and mortality | from diphtheria, whooping cought, | juvenile tuberculosis and other childhood diseases,” Dr. Morgan | “I know of no other city which emphasises a health program among children of the kindergarten age as does Indianapolis.” The Kindergarten Society is to award Health Honor Roll ribbons | to 980 children at the Brookside | Park Community House. All of them have been immunized against diptheria and small pox and also have been examined for nutritional, dental and general health defects. Explaining the results of this] work, Dr. Morgan said that in 1937, there were only 25 cases of diphtheria in Indianapolis as compared to more than 800 in 1922, when the immunization program was started. | “For a number of years, more | than 1000 children have been im- | munized against diphtheria in the | Indianapolis free kindergartens,” | Dr. Morgan said. | He pointed out that in 1936, not a case of smallpox was reported in Indianapolis, and that ‘the cooperation of the Indianapolis Free Kindergarten Society in the prevention of smallpox has been very thorough.” The kindergarten health program | is supervised by five nurses under | Greco Si Dh of Dr. Frafies T. Brown.
