Swine Upswing Continues on Active Demand

Hog prices continued to move upward under active buying support from most interests, according to the Bureau of Agricultural Economics. Locally, weights above 160Ibs. sold 10c higher than Friday and Saturday although lighter weights and pigs held only steady. The top which advanced to $8.35 was again paid for 160-180-pound averages. Packing sows gained 10 to 15¢ to sell mostly from $7.25-$7.75, occasional rough heavies below $7.25. The healthy tone which pervaded the cattle trade late last week extended into today’s deal and all classes sold strong to higher. Again the live market reflected further improvement in dressed circles. Slaughter steers and vearlings ruled strong to 25c above last week's higher close and are now selling 25 |to mostly 50c higher than at the {low time last Tuesday. Demand Broad

All other classes including cows, heifers and bulls sold readily at strong to 15¢ higher prices, cows being especially in broad demand.
