Local High School Youns)

Are Easy Winners in Sectionals.

Technical and Washington High Schools of Indianapolis today loomed as serious threats for the state track championship as the result of decisive victories scored in sectional qualifying meets at Butler Oval and Southport yesterday. The state meet will be held at Butler next Saturday. Tech amassed a total of 61 5-6 to capture first honors in the meet held at Butler in the afternoon while at the Southport meet last night the Continentals displayed marked superiority over their rivals in rolling up a total of 60 points, Tech qualified 11 men and its mile relay team and Washington qualified seven men and its half-mile relay team Shortridge was second in the Butler competition with 38% points; Broad Ripple third with 17; Ben Davis, fourth, 75-6; Warren Central, fifth, 5; Plainfield, sixth with 3. Manual was runnerup at Southport with 38 points; Southport third with 30'2, followed by Greenfield, 5, and Waldron, 1's.

Three Records Broken

Three records were erased from the books at Butler oval, those for the mile and half-mile relays and the 440-yard dash. Anchored by Bob Delrymple, Tech's mile quartet ran the distance in 3 minutes 31.6 seconds. The time was seventenths of a second better than the former record. Shortly before this event, Delrymple ran the quarter-mile in 50.5 seconds to clip three-tenths of & second from the record set by Lynn Lotick of Shortridge 17 years ago. The Blue Devils’ new half-mile combination—Ed Zeigner, Emory Schlake, Hugh Dalzell and Bud Piel —cracked the record in that event, running the distance in 1 minutes 329 seconds, 1.7 seconds under the former mark. High scoring honors went to the versatile Vance Wilkinson of Broad Ripple, who won both hurdle races and the high jump. Finding little trouble in winning the 100 and 200-yard dashes, speedster Bud Piel of Shortridge was the second ranking individual scorer. Arvil Menchhopper, Bob Kersey and Red Carter starred for Washington. RESULTS AT BUTLER

‘Bring on Baer and Louis,’ Kovacs Rated Cries Tony After Victory

NEW YORK, May 14 (U. P).—Tony Galento, the fat tavern-keeper who trains on beer and big, black cigars, climbed up on a rubbing table deep in Madison Sus Garden, beat his chest in

of Orange, N. J.,

Tarzan-like fashion and bellowed: & “Il knock Baer out. I wani Baer. I'll knock out Tommy Farr, too. I'll knock Louis out. I'll knock ‘em all out—quick!” And Two Ton Tony meant what he said. For, only a few minutes | before he had knocked out rugged | Nathan Mann of New Haven after

Joe Louis, the heavyweight champion, fought Mann in the same ring on Feb. 23, and needed seven minutes and 56 seconds-—1:56 of the third round—to turn the same trick. Some of the “experts” gathered in Galento's madhouse dressing room snickered at Tony's boasts— just like they had when he predicted he would kayo Mann. Others thought maybe Tony had something —because he showed last night that his punch is probably the most dangerous in the business today. Mike Jacobs, who promoted the show, will confer with Galento's manager, Joe Jacobs, today regarding Tony's next performance. Probably he will fight Maxie Baer, the former champion, in July with the winner to get a shot either in or next June at the wintitle
