Mr. Clark said that a Lifeguard is a two-ply tire placed within a regular tube to which it is joined | at the base. He explained that when the tube | Is deflated suddenly, a tiny vent | allows the air to pass slowly from | the reserve tire of the Lifeguard which meanwhile supports the car, giving the driver ample time to stop.

Chevrolet Endurance Truck Arrives Here

A Chevrolet truck which is being driven on a 50,000-mile endurance | and long-distance safety test and an accompanying car arrived here

yesterday. The party is to remain until early next week. Harry Hartz, former 500-mile race driver, is in charge of the trip and is doing a share of the driving. Ralph Roesler is representing the Chevrolet manufacturers. Others in the party are two drivers and two American Automobile Association observers. The trip, which began last Januarv, already has included 30 states and parts of Canada and Mexico. Headquarters here are being made at the Johnson Chevrolet Co., 1035 | N. Meridian St

National Auto Show Invitations Issued

NEW YORK, May 13.—Invitations to exhibit and application forms for space have just been issued for the 1938 National Automobile Show, which is to be held at the Grand Central Palace from Nov. 11 until Nov. 18 The drawing for space in the car sections is to be held at the annual meeting of the Automobile Manufacturers’ Association, show sponsor, at Detroit on June 9. The show committee includes Byron C. Foy, representing DeSoto, chairman; Richard H. Grant, General Motors, and Paul G. Hoffman, Studebaker.

Obsolete Route Markings Scored

Times Special WASHINGTON, May 13. —Declaring that tourists are dissatisfied with the “inadequate and obsolete” system of route marking, American Automobile Association officilas said that affiliated motor clubs in all parts of the country are co-op-erating in an effort to obtain improvements Russell E. Singer, A. A. A. peneral manager, said that motorists had made complaints of all kinds. Motorists’ comments, he said, were that in country districts highway numbers are often too far apart and not properly placed. Another complaint was that there is too much confusion between State and Federal numbers and that often a single standard carries a long list of numbers which are hard to decipher. Another complaint was that some states detours are marked poorly and ‘that the motorist is shunted from the main highway and left to find his way back, Mr. Singer said that there is need for a system that will indicate direction so the motorist will know exactly which way to turn at an intersection.
