Held on robbery charges were Albert Karamanos, 18, of 538 Chadwick St.; Russell Thornhill, 17, of 1253 W. New York St., and Walter Roberts, 19, of 538 Chadwick St Officers said Karamanos admitted the robberies of stations at Meridian and South Sts., Meridian St. and Madison Ave. and 435 Kentucky Ave. More than $100 was taken from the attendants, The Kentucky Ave. robbed twice.
Claim Two Identified
Thornhill accompanied Karamanos in three of the robberies, detectives said. They added that Roberts accompanied him once, obtaining $17 as his share. Attendants of tions already have identified Karamanos and Thornhill, detectives claimed. They said other victims of recent robberies were to confront the youths, who were held under $5000 bond.
A 43-year-old Negro was arrested late yesterday by police who said they found him sitting in a car parked at Pennsylvania and 9th Sts. When they accused him of attempting to steal the auto radio, he told them he had only intended “to take a little ride in the car.”
Officers sought the companion of two men held for alleged participation in a restaurant holdup last night. Mont Taylor, 3745 Salem St., proprietor of the cafe at 879 Massachusetts Ave., told officers that a lone gunman held him up, took $16, ran out to a ‘waiting auto manned by two confederates and fled About 3 a. m. today, detectives kicked in the door of a room at a near-town hotel and accused two men of complicity in the crime They denied it, but the officers found a revolver hidden in a golf bag and it later was identified by Mr. Taylor as the one used in the holdup, the detectives said. He also identified one of the men as the gunman, officers declared.
