DEALINGS

Hogs Steady Despite Run Of 9000 Head

A liberal run of hogs expected to total around 9000 head failed to depress the local price list, according to the Bureau of Agricultural® Economics. In an active trade, all | weights held steady with Friday and | Saturday despite bearish advices { from nearby centers, Top remained at $8.15 for good 1land choice 160-180-pound butchers. Packing sows were likewise un- | changed, bulking from $6.85 to $7.25 | some extremes above and below that | price spread. | A sharp drop in aggregate re- | ceipts of cattle around the market circuit forced Killers to pay strong to 15 cents higher prices for steers and strong prices for heifers in order to meet everyday require-

|

| ments. It was more or less a forced

| market as no improvement in the | dressed trade and no betterment in | the general outlook was reported.

The cow market held steady after {being retarded by strong asking prices on early rounds. Many sales of steers and heifers show more than the above advance, but cooler | weather made for lighter waterfills | and better weights in the beef which | partly discounted the advance, Most steers and heifers were of a kind to | sell from $7.50 to $8.60, a part load | of good heifers $8.75 and a similar lot of choice yearling steers, $9.25.

Bulls ruled weak at mostly $6.75 | down, Vealers went unchanged, although nothing exceeded $9 today, whereas a few handpicked Kinds | brought $9.50 Friday. Around three doubles of shorn fed | lambs practically comprised the ex- | tent of the unloads in the sheep house. In merely good flesh, these | were considered around steady with the close last week at $7.50. Other lower grade shorn natives sold down to $7 and below. Slaughter ewes were { steady at $3 to $4.
