A could not help feeling Roger got back safely. empty feeling left her; even glad that he was coming out for dinner. It began well enough, Evelyn presiding smilingly at end of the long, candle-lighted table, with Mr. John Paul Scott at other end, and Jackie across from Roger. “I think we should make a toast! to these young sweethearts, don’t you, Paul?” Evelyn suggested, raising her wine glass. Jackie almost choked on her Sip | of sherry “Sweethearts!” she | sputtered. “Why, we . . . oh goodness, such things?” The threw at Roger appealed support. “Let's make it just to Jackie,” Roger responded gallantly. “She's a sweetheart, even if she isn’t mine —vet.” His glance was full of significance: it held admiration, too. “That's just what we want to talk about.” Evelyn said. “Now tell me what are your plans, my dear boy? When do you two sweet children intend to be married?” “Mother!” Now, darling.” her mother lenced Jackie with one of her patient smiles. such details agree, Paul?

That's the comthing in aviation. Only, and now Jackie gave Mr Scott a smile almost equaling Evelyn's in sweetness, “he'll have to find a Santa Claus.” «Jackie means I'd have to have a backer,” Roger explained to Mr. Scott. “Someone especially ested. uv ” “The future of aviation thing I am not interested in,” Scott said concisely.
