BRICE BIDS ADIEUTO $150,000 POKER POT
English Squire Spurns to Flip Double or Nothing.
HOLLYWOOD, Mav 8 (U. P) Lew Brice said goodbye to his $150.000 poker pot today, after offering to flip coins for it—"double or nothing"—with Harry T. Clifton the English squire. Mr. Brice, brother of Fanny Brice, stage and movie comedienne, gave | Mr. Clifton his signed release of any claim against the money. He also was reported th have handed over Mr. Qlifton's two checks, one for $50,000 and the other for $100.000 Mr. Brice won the money at poker a week ago The wealthy English sportsman | stopped his court action designed to prevent Mr. Brice from cashing the checks. He contended Mr. Brice falsely represented himself as able to pay if the came had ended with Mr. Clifton the winner “I'l flip him for it,” Mr Brice | said “Just a flip ‘of the ‘coin winner take double or nothing. He's & sportsman, and that ought to be 8 sporting proposition.” Mr. Clifton’s attorney ignord the offer. Mr. Brice said: ‘For years I've been sinking dough In Irish sweepstakes tickets and hoping for the 150 ‘G’ from England. And now I win it from an Englishman and I'm checked out on a photo finish.” As disappointed as Brice in the loss of his poker pot was Miss Marshen Jorgensen, voung Danish actress, who four years ago sued him for $100,000 charging betrayal. | The jury awarded her $1000, which | still is unpaid.
