Cost of direct relief in Marjon County showed an increase of 36 per |
cent_in March over February, and 31.5 per cent over March, 1937, according to figures released today by the Governor's Commission on Unemployment Relief. - The -total cost in March was $199,453.68. At the same time, the Commission reported that County expenditures for the first quarter of 1938 were 38 per cent more than for.the similar period of 1637. The number of cases and the number. of persons’ affected
also showed an increase for thee
quarter and for last month over March, 1937. There was a decrease of 937 persons served in March as compared to February. The greatest increase for March over February was shown by Franklin Township at 42.9 per: cent.
Drops in One Township
Only one township showed a drop for the first quarter of this year under the total for the first quarter of 1937. That was Pike Township, where the cost went from $655.28 to $521.49, a drop of 20 per cent.

NLRB IS OVERRULED. ON TERRE HAUTE EDICT
CHICAGO, April 29 (U. P)—A ruling of the United States Circuit Court of Appeals held today that union employees who strike in violation of a contract requiring arbitration of disputes cannot regain their jobs by an order of the National Labor Relations Board. The decision, written by Judge Evan ‘A. Evans, set aside an order of the NLRB directing the Columbian Enameling & Stamp Co., Inc, Terre Haute, Ind., to re-employ 250
men who went on strike March 22, The opinion said that the men; members of the Endmeling and Stamping Mill Employees’ Union, failed to abide by their contract which provided for arbitration of disputes wit htheir employer. The decision was concurred in by ‘Judge Will M. Sparks. Judge Walter E. Treanor of Indiana dissented.

. Lowest bids for the construction of Engine House 1 have been approved by a special committee composed of City Building Commissioner George R. Popp Jr. and Ed-

The contracts will be awarded on these bids if the City Council approves the committee’s action,
