Adamick Scores

K. 0. Over Bruce

ST. LOUIS, April 29 (U. P). — Jimmy Adamick, Detroit -heavyweight, knocked out Leo. (Red) Bruce, Pittburgh’s sorrel-topped Negro fighter, in the third round of a fast bout here last night. A lightning right to the Negro’s temple dropped him in the third after 1 minute and 27 seconds of fighting. Bruce struggled to his feet but Referee Harry Cook waved him to his corner. The fight started fast with Bruce, who won applause by gameness and willingness to carry the battle to the Detroiter, taking the first round by a shade. A snapping straight left puzzled Adamick. Bruce attemptd to open up in the second, which proved his undoing. Adamick staggered him with a left hook and followed through with a right to the temple, dropping Bruce for a count of nine. In the third, although tired and obviously outclassed, Bruce tried to make a fight of it but a series of left hooks and right jabs brought his guard down, permitting Adamick to score the knockout punch.

Rose to Pilot Lightest Car

Mauri Rose, smallest driver in big time auto racing, has been named to drive the lightest car entered in the 500-mile race May 30 at the Speedway. Rose, who divides his hometown allegiance between Columbus, O., and Detroit, Mich., weighs only 125 pounds, he is 5 feet 2 inches tall and the seats of the cars he drives have to be propped up with cushions to enable ‘him to see. He was selected to drive the six-cylinder Maserath an Italian built ear, one three entered in the speed classic Mike Boyle, Chicago sportsman. Cotton Henning, Boyle's racing manager, announced Rose’s nomination after the tiny driver had taken an extensive tryout in the car, which weighs slightly more than 1300 pounds and has a 91-inch supercharged motor. “Rose is a hard driver who'll get in there and keep going,” Cotton said. lighter than our two others to be driven by Bill Cummings of Indianapolis and Chet Miller of Detroit, it should run fast for the entire 500miles.” Rose turned the course averaging 117 miles an hour in his speed trial, and Henning said he anticipated the car would be tuned to better than 121 miles an hour “when the fuel combination has been worked out.” Alcohol mixed with benzol is used to develop the 185-horse power of the lowslung racer.

Lou Meyer, only three-time winner in Indianapolis Speedway history, will bid for a fourth victory this year behind the wheel of a Bowes “Seal Fast” Special which he has been building since last fall at his home in

The new Meyer speed creation will represent the sole output of a Meorporaiion”. comprising Meyer and

sponsor, Robert M. Bowes, Indianapolis automobile accessories manufacturer and sports fan. Meyer and his car are due here shortly, as the famous pilot is anxious to get on the Speedway track for necessary tune-up and adjustments. Plenty of speed and lots of power will characterize the Meyer-Bowes entry, according to advance reports. The car will be powered by a straight eight-cylindered, 183-cubic-inch motor, designed jointly by Meyer and Fred Ofenhauser, wellknown engine builder. Added power will be provided by an Englishmade supercharger, Meyer reports he expects his engine to turn about 6000 to 6500 revolutions a minute which is a race driver's favorité method of estimating traveling speed. In layman's terms, this would work out in an impressive “miles per ho clip under the guidance of a pilot of Meyer's caliber. The new speedster will be eyefilling from an appearance standpoint, too, observers say. Because Meyer believes that streamlining is a definite help to speed on the track, the car is severely streamlined. In appearance it is similar to German Mercedes cars which have been winning most of the racing laurels in Europe. Myron Stevens, famous racing body designer, co-operated “with Lou on the design and construction of the streamlined body.

COOGAN GETS COURT ORDER TO SEE LEDGER

HOLLYWOOD, April 29 (U. P.).— Jackie Coogan, armed with a court order, set out today to learn where his earnings as a child movie star went.

Jackie claims that they totaled $4,000,000, the sum he is suing to recover from his mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur L. Bernstein. A court receiver said that only $535,923.70 was left. Judge Emmet H Wilson gave Jackie authority to examine the ledgers of Jackie Coogan Productions, Inc., the concern that Jackie said his late father established to conserve his money until he was old enough to handle it himself. His stepfather has been operating a beer business from the offices.
