National Au

Return to Spring Date; Early Display ‘Took Edge off’ Holiday Sales, Complaint.

DETROIT, April 29 (U. P)— _Abandonment of President Roosevelt’s “spread-the-work” plan through fall showing of new automobile models was demanded today by the National Automobile Dealers Association. Association directors announced that they adopted a resolution at their final session late yesterday urging a return to the traditional industry habit of staging the annual national automobile show in Janu-

ary. Since 1934, at Mr. Roosevelt's suggestion, the show has been held in October. Until the “recession” struck last fall the plan was credited throughout the industry with contributing to a new measure of stability in automobile factory employment. Recently, however, dealers have complained that the early show “took the edge off” their Christmas and early spring business. To prove their argument they have quoted statistics of this spring’s production and sales, showing that the industry has not experienced the “normal” spring upturn in business. A fall date for the 1938 show already has been set by the Automobile Manufacturers Association show committee. Directors of the N. A. D. A. also decided that present association officers would continue to serve pending revision of their constitution and bylaws. This revision contemplates eliminating sections which were adopted to conform with a code under which the industry operated during the NRA period. Changes will be submitted to the memngbership for a referendum vote within four months. The 1939 convention, the directors announced, will be at San Francisco. Meanwhile, the Association's executive committee and management will study a score of plans for the junking of obsolete cars in order to open the way for increased new car sales.

McConnell. : “Reto kidney troubles that had such a hold on me I was about past leaving the house,” declared Mr. McConnell. “These spells with my stomach and kidneys started five years ago, and got harder and and three months ago I had a complete break-down.
