SCHENCK URGES ADHERENCE TO ARR CORN CODE
State Farm Bureau Head Warns Situation Is ‘Critical.’
Indiana farmers today were urged by Hassil E. Schenck, Indiana Farm Bureau president, to co-operate in the corn provisions of the 1938 AAA program in an effort to avoid overproduction and its consequences. Pointing out that corn acreage allotments provide for normal domestiec consumption and export
volume, plus a 10 per cent carryover. Mr. Schenck said. “Farmers of the corn belt are faced with a critical situation which may be felt for years to come. No farmer is required to comply, but he should realize the full significance of his activities if he does not. Corn Surplus on Hand
“The cribs of the corn belt still are well-filled. In the event of a heavy crop this year, on top of the present carryover, the resulting price will be disastrous to corn farmers. “The 1938 AAA provides a means of - avoiding this disaster if the farmers will co-operate. If they refuse to comply, the next hope is in establishing marketing quotas. Should they fail in attaining a twothirds majority in a referendum (to determine : whether marketing quotas shall be established), the corn farmer will be right back . where he started—with no corn loans; no orderly marketing, and no possibility of parity payments, all of which are designed to put farm commodities on a par with She things the farmer ‘has to purchase.”
FOUND DEAD AT HOME
A suicide verdict was returned today in the death of Mrs. Viola Record, 48, of 3327 Carrollton Ave, whose body was found hanging from a rope in the basement of her home yesterday. Her husband, Claude Record, 47, said she had ‘been‘in- ill health for several months. .
