COLUMBIA CLUB 'STEAK DINNER TO ATTRACT 700
Members Don Costumes of Butchers’ Caps and Aprons Tonight.
Columbia Club members are to don their traditional costumes of butchers’ caps and aprons tonight for their 49th anniversary Beefsteak Dinner.
Rep. Charles A. Halleck (R. Ind.) is to be guest speaker. Maj. Gen. Robert H. Tyndall is entertainment committee chairman. Fred C. Gardner, club president, has named Albert J. Beveridge to introduce Mr. Halleck. Twenty-four choice steers, weighing six tons on foot, have been ordered for the annual dinner, Park Akin, club manager, said today. A five-tier cake weighing more than 100 pounds and decorated with 42 candles and names of 170 club veterans is to be served. Amos Ostot and his orchestra are to provide music. Several rounds of boxing are to be staged in a ring installed in the ballroom.
Special tables have been reserved for 25-year club veterans und ‘for fathers and sons; who attend together. f
Officials predicted that 700 members from Indianapolis and cther Indiana cities will attend.
PURDUE U. STUDENT “WINS AIR HONORS
OAKLAND, Cal, April 28 (U. P.). Winners of aeronautical awards with a value of $11,140 were announced today by the United Airlines scholarships committee which
met here to evaluate treatises received from undergraduates in the United States and Canada. The winners were Robert R. Dansfield of the University of Wisconsin, Frank M. Crosby of Purdue University, William B. Palmer of Yale and Harry W. Brown of the University, of Nebraska. All four will be given courses in aeronautics, and at the end of the first quarter the most apt will be allowed to complete a master course in commercial transport piloting, valued at $4600.
PARLEY TO TACKLE YOUTH PROBLEMS
Representatives from = governmental agencies operating youth programs are to hold their third joint meeting at noon tomorrow at. the Severin Hotel, Robert S. Richey, State NYA director, announced today. William PF. Vogel, WPA state educational program director, is to report on his department’s activities. Mr. Richey explained the meeting’s purpose is to develop a closer co-operation between youth-serving agencies. Groups to be represented include the Civilian Conservation Corps, the State Employment Service, the State Department of Education, the Governor's Commission on Unemployment Relief, the WPA and the NYA.
