CALLED KEY TO HEALTHY TRADE Only Practical Way to Re-
build Foreign Commerce, "Bankers Told.
Times Special FRENCH LICK, April 22.—Secre-
‘tary of State Cordell Hull's trade
agreements program provides the only practical way to rebuild the nation’s foreign trade, Henry F.
Grady, U. 8. Tariff Conimission vice chairman told the Bankers’ Association for Foreign Trade today. He was the principal speaker during the closing session of the 16th annual meeting of the association. Secretary Hull's program is highly SONSLEUCLIVS. and seems, “despite opposition aggressive, selfish groups, to his supported by the country as a whole without reference to political affiliations,” Mr. Grady said. He~ condemned any suggestion that trade liberalization be aban= doned and that foreign’ trade b{ T strictions be adopted. “The movement toward self-con-tainment is fraught with pain and distress,” Mr. Grady said. “If the counter movement, represented by the trade agreements program, should ‘be nullified by the pressure of extreme protectionism, we should be forced into something that would
take the proportions of an industrial revolution.” :
. The association went on serord :
in favor of a practical adjustments of war debts to the United States. It memoralized Congress’ and the Maritime Commission, asking adequate merchant marine tonnage. Crop limitation ‘was condemned on the grounds that it would stop the usual flow to world markets of normal surplus, surrender the nation’s foreign markets and add confusion to domestic and infternational trade. -
