The average life span of an au- . tomobile is seven years, but nearly 125,000 cars twice that old still are creaking ,and rattling along the highways, the American Automobile + Association said in a report here "to oe Hoosier Automobile Club. total number of sont last year was 3,300,000— an all-time high, the geport said. Nevertheless, it pointed out, there still is a large number of autos in operation which’ should have gone to the junkyard. - The report added that-of about : 20,000,000 passenger cars now in use, : about 33,000 were built in 1924; 89,000 in 1925; 161,000 im 1926; 262,000 in 1927, and about 600,000 in + 1928. ; : “Of ‘course, there is no reasonable objection to keeping a car in use almost indefinitely as long 'as it is maintained in a safe operating condition and is capable of meeting _ traffic demands,” auto club officials said. “In all to6 many cases, however, * these ancient vehicles have been sold and resold and have been allowed to deteriorate to the point where they are a positive menace. “It is encouraging to note that the scrapping of wornout vehicles reached new proportions last year. The more the trend continues, the less will be the chance of accident.”

ommends a trip to McCormick’s Creek State Park in Owen County near Spencer. ‘ There are 700 acres of majestic scenery, a modern hotel, swimming * pool and organized areas for group camping. White River bounds the park on one side, providing fishing in season. Don’t Use Old Tubes in New Tires, Says Fisk
Times Special SPRINGFIELD, Mass., April 22.— Motorists are warned by Fisk Tire Co. scientists not to put old tubes in new tires if they would keep tire trouble at a minimum. After months of repeated runs,
the scientists found that the deteriorating effect of heat makes tube stock lifeless and flabby and that it takes permanent form in a stretched-out shape. Once such a
tube has been removed from a tire, it is almost impossible to replace it without causing buckles and folds which eventually result in flats, they
said.
