Antissloon League Is Riled

By Elephant Drinking Act

ST. LOUIS, April 21 (U. P.).—Zoo officials. today offered a bottle of sugared water to the Missouri Antisaloon League as evidence that three baby Indian elephants didn’t tipple hard liquor: to achieve the appearance of passing out on the floor while a trainer sang. “Show Me the Way to Go

Home. »

It was just an act-worked out as a feature of this season’s wild animal

vaudeville show at Forest Park,®

George Vierheller, director of the zoo, explained. “If anyone, takes offense at that act,” he said, “he hasn't. gny sense of humor left.” But 'P. A. Tate, director of the

State Antisaloon League, said he couldn’t see any humor in Clarabelle, Marian ' and Vi drinking thirstily from a bottle, staggering about and then apparently passing out to the tune of a drinking song.

Woman Declares Benefits From Famous Medicine Almost Unbelievable. Years of Suffering Soon Overcome. \

One might doubt promises and claims made for a medicine, but there is no mistaking the sincerity of the thousands of men and women who, through actual ‘experience, know what Retonga will do end are glad to tell others. who suffer as they did about this remarkable preparation. Retonga’s marvelous record is an open book to all Among the hundreds of happy Indianapolis men and women praising Retonga is Mrs. Bertha Arvin, well-known and highly respected resident of 3702 N. Oxford St., who told of her experience with this Tremarkable medicine in these sincere words: “It is almost unbelievable the way Retonga rid me often years’ suffering from stomach trouble pains in my arms and legs, and almost unbearable headaches,” declared Mrs. Arvin. “No matter how careful I was with my diet, my food would sour and my stomach would bloat till I could hardly. breathe. Sometimes my stomach was sore to the touch, spots would dance before my eyes and I was so bilious and dizzy I could hardly stand up. My

stomach seems like a new one, and the gas, hilious, -dizzy spells, -and pains are entirely gone. What a relief it is not to suffer any more, and feel good just like I used to. I can ‘never praise Retonga enough.” When asked to comment on Mrs. Arvin’s statement, Mr. C. W. Garing, special Retonga representative who is introducing the famous medicine at Hook's Dependable Drug Store, S. E. Corner Illinois and Washington streets, said such cases are not usual. “Retonga seems to be at the very peak of its power in stubborn cases that have apparently defied every effort at relief,” said Mr. Garing. “Retonga’s roots, herbs, and barks are easily absorbed by. the system and go right to work to strengthen ‘digestion and otherwise build up the body.” Mr. Garhy invites anyone who wants to know more about' Retonga to call on him freely without obligation. Retonga may be obtained at all Hook’s Dependable Drug Stores and other good Drug Stores throughout this section.

Mr. Tate declared he would bring the matter up before the next meeting of the Antisaloon League. Mr. Tate's attention was called to the act when he attended a meeting of the St. Louis City and County Prohibition Clubs. First reports were that the trainer actually served hard liquor to the elephants. Mr. Vierheller finally convinced Mr: Tate that it was only sugared water.

“The Prohibition Clubs voted to send a protest to Mayor Bernard Dickmann anyway on grounds the exhibition was “not very edifying.” Mr. Vierheller asserted the act showed the intelligence of the animals and the ability of the trainers. Mr. Tate disagreed.
