hog RATES RISE ON LIGHT RUN
Top Moves to s to $8.80 Top; “Cattle Prices . Stay Nominally Steady.
Another light. hog run today drew mostly 10 cents higher prices on all weights, according to the Bureau of Agricultural Economics, with several lots of strictly choice, uniform consignments making an additional 5 cents above the established schedule.
A practical top of $8.80 on good and choice weights scaling + mostly 210-220 pounds was exceeded only by: a few outstanding 229-pound Berkshires at $8.85. Weights from 160 to 250 pounds cleared from $8. 60 {to $8.80, 250 to‘'300 pounds $8.35 to | $8.65 and 300-400-pound averages | [email protected].
Packing .sows, sold ftendy to 10 cents higher, medium and heavyweight offerings up most. In a range of mostly $7.50 to $8, offerings upward to 400 pounds made the outside figure. rather freely, with occasional rough heavies below $7.50. Estimated receipts of only 400 cattle included around three cars of medium grade’ Western. stockers leaving -the ‘market supply of fat cattle too small to test values in the various classes., Most all quotations
were left on. a nominally steady
basis. A few head of good medium ‘weight steers reached $9 as did a small’ lot of - choice lightweight
‘heifers. -
Of interest was the sale of a short load of. strictly: good weighty cows at $7.25. Choice yearling steers
| reached $10 here this week and
prices of steers, heifers and. cows moved up as much as 25 cents over the close of last week. - Old crop fat lambs: sold mostly on shipper account -steady to 15 cents higher, the. advance showing best around 90-pound sharniofferings at $8.15, with around three doubles of lighterweights $8. Around 600 wooled lambs ‘at $8.25 graded merely good, with strictly choice offerings con-
sidered eligible above. Other classes
were mostly absent.
