BUMPER WHEAT CROP PREDICTED IF RAINS CEASE

Grain Prices Lowest in Three Years; 717-Million-Bushel Harvest Seen.

Prospects for a bumper ‘wheat crop, although threatened by recent heavy rains, are reflected in the lowest cash grain prices in three years, M. D. Guild, manager of the

reported today. | “Crop experts are ‘predicting the third largest crop of winter wheat ever raised in the United States, Mr. Guild said. “The estimate is for a production of 717,000,000 bushels. Ths compares with 685,000,000 harvested last year, and ah average of 623,000,000 bushels harvested annually during the period from 1928 to 1932. “The glowing crop prospect has had its effect upon cash grain prices. Values now are the lowest they have been within the last three yeas. However, corn prices have held remarkable well in face of. wheat’s eavy decline. k A vorable weather conditions for the growing crop and its unusually heavy foliage lead most of us to think that the crop is from two to three weeks earlier than usual Prospects, however, do not assure such a crop. “Heavy rains the last few days caused agricultural interests not a little alarm. Much of the wheat area has been inundated.”

Hassil E. Schenck, Indiana Farm Bureau president, is a member of the committee arranging for the Midwest trainng school at Purdue University July 17 to 21. The school is conducted each sumafier for workers in farm organization. It is sponsored by state Farm Bureaus of the Midwest and the American Farm Bureau Federation.

Loans through the Commodity Credit Corp. will be made on Indiana wools after they are warehoused at Indianapolis, graded and warehouse receipts have been issued, T. I. Ferris, Indiana Wool Growers Association president, ananounced today. “At present the flat advance on delivery is 14 cents for good ewe wool, 10 cents on fed lamb wool, any 7 cents on dead, black and rejects,” Mr. Ferris said. “The loans are available to any Indiana wool grower who signs our marketing agreement.”

PURSLEY AND WIFE VISITING IN CAPITAL

Times Special WASHINGTON, April 12.—Alex Pursley, Fifth District Democratic chairman and close advisor to Governor Townsend, is visiting here, accompanied by Mrs. Pursley. Although he termed it a pleasure trip, Mr. Pursley talked politics with various Democratic Congressmen. He was presented to them by Rep. Griswold, who is reported to be the Pursley choice for the Senatorial nomination. * Mr. Pursley reportedly told the Congressmen that Indiana still is strong for President Roosevelt.

PEATS, CRICKMORE WILL BE SENTENCED

Sentences are to be imposed in Criminal Court next Tuesday on Victor Crickmore and Harry Peats, convicted in the fatal stoning of a grocery truck driver. They face twa to 21 years in prison for voluntary manslaughter in connection with the death of John Marshall Penny. Their conviction was upheld by the ~ Indiana Supreme Court. * They were to have been sentenced today but Prank Symmes, acting as - special Judge, is on another bench.

BOETCHER ACCEPTS QUINN RESIGNATION

Thomas M. Quinn’s resignation from the Marion County Liquor Board was accepted today by Mayor Boetcher, who said he would not appoint a successor for several days. Mr. Quinn, who is a ‘Democratic candidates for the nomination as Center = Township trustee, was serving his third year as a member of the liquor board. All appointments are for one year.

LAGRANGE, April 12 (U.P.).— Purdue University specialists announced today they will dynamite 1000 feet of open ditch at the Joe Lehman farm near here April 28. The demonstration will be held in connection with a state-wide program for building new drainage channels.

Help in Promotion Of Building.

Indiana architects today had been urged to survey the demand for

scale projects. John C. Bollenbacher, Chicago, architectural consultant for the Federal Housing Administration, suggested the step when he spoke yesterday before the Indiana Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. He declared that architects must take a more prominent position in the "promotion of building operations. Explaining the scope of FHA, Mr. Bollenbacher called attention to new opportunities for construction work. He urged the architécts to study population trends, the demand for lower-cost rentals, locations, the city plan, business and industrial development and transportation facilities. Edward D. Pierre was chairman of the meeting held in the Architects’ and Builders’ Building.
