8 SOVIET FUGITIVES DIE IN AIR BATTLE
TOKYO, April 7 (U. P.).—An air battle between Soviet military officers seeking to escape a death. sentence and Soviet secret police was described today by the Seoul, Korea, correspondent of the newspaper Yomiuri. The officers were killed. The dispatch quoted reports received at Japanese Army headquarters at Seoul saying that eight of- _ ficers, sentenced to death at Habarovsk, escaped and stole a fast plane in which they attempted to cross the Manchukuo frontier. Soviet Secret police sent a squad ron in pursuit, the dispatch said, and engaged the fleeing plane in a battle. One of the Ogpu planes was shot down. The officers’ plane was riddled with machine gun bullets ~ and crashed, killing all eight.

STUDENTS WIN VOICE IN COLLEGE POLICIES
36 Appointed to Nine Faculty Committees.
Times Special TERRE HAUTE, April 7.—The college student's dream of being able to “tell off”: the faculty on policies directly relating to them will come true at Indiana State Teachers College, where 36 highranking undergraduates have been appointed to nine faculty committees in a new experiment. The committees, which heretofore have had exclusive faculty membership but now will have four student members each, are: Athletics, library, alumni, convocations and activities, radio, student publications, selective admission and selective promotion, student health and student welfare. The plan was adopted, President Ralph N. Tirey explained, to give the students a democratic means of voicing their sentiments in matters directly affecting them in college administration. Harold Mortord of Indianapolis was named to the convocations and activities committee.
