Times Special BLOOMINGTON, April 1.—Three men were selected today to share in the annual Balfour awards in basketball and wrestling, two of Indiana University’s highest athletic honors, Athletic Director Z. G. Clevenger announced. Emest Andres of Jeffersonville, captain-elect of the 1938-39 basketball team, was selected to receive the, honor in basketball, and Willard Duffy of Muncie and Charles McDaniel of Bloomington were named to share the wrestling award. The Balfour awards, given each year by L. G. Balfour of Attleboro, Mass., former “I” man, are granted to athletes in football, basketball, wrestling, baseball and track for “bringing honor and disfinction to Indiana University.” Andres, a junior, was runnerup for Big Ten scoring honors this season, and set a Big Ten individual scoring record by tallying 30 points against Illinois. Andres was unanimous choice for All-Conference guard in basketball, and was a popular choice for All-America honors. He also is a letterman in

Duffy and McDaniel, both seniors, have won the award previously.

Collegiate heavyweight wrestling champion, won the award in 1935. He was a member of the 1936 U. S. Alympic wrestling team at 191 pounds, and has won three letters in football, where he played at tackle. - Duffy, Big Ten 126-pound champion, was a runnerup for the National Collegiate 118-pound title, and was voted the outstanding wrestler in the Big Ten tournament. He was an alternate on the Olympic team at 123 pounds. He received the Balfour award in 1

By United Press Division finals of the Interna-tional-American Hockey League playoffs get under way tomorrow night with Philadelphia meeting Providence for the eastern title while Cleveland and Syracuse clash for the Western championship. Philadelphia «nosed out New Haven 3-2 and Syracuse OvVerpowe ered Pittsburgh 5-2 to reach the finals last night. Division finals, to be decided on a best-two-of-three basis, will begin in Philadelphia and Syracuse. Philadelphia’s Ramblers had a real battle on their hands in making it two straight over the Eagles. New Haven was out in front twice, but the Ramblers came from behind to tie the score each time and won out on Charley Mason's goal at 2:55 in the third overtime period.
