LOUIS, March 31.—Miss Ada Bicking, director of the Jordan Conservatory of Music, Indianapolis, dnd second vice president of the National Music Educators Conference, presided at the third general session of the conference convention in the Civic Opera House this morning. - Speakers included. Dr. Howard Hanson, American composer, conductor and Eastman School of Music director; John G. Paine, representing the ‘American Society of Composers, Authors and’ Publishers, and a representative of the American Pederation of Musicians. - Dr. Joseph E. Maddy, conference president and music professor at the University of Michigan, ane nounced today: that ne will spend several - hours: ‘with friends and members of the Jordan Conservative faculty in Indianapolis Sunday en route to Ann Arbor. In a press conference yesterday, Dr. Maddy started a heated discussion among delegates with a defense of “swing” music. “If the younger generation can take swing music in the same semiserious vein it takes comic strips,” the educator said, “then swing music is not ‘going to damage the youthful appreciation of “good music.” ie
