We may prate learnedly about this one and that one, and their tremendous ‘influence‘ upon music, ‘But it’s a good thing actually to hear their compositions now and then, and to let them stand or fall on the basis of the pleasure they still can give. Of course there are the difficulties of searching out such music, transcribing it to modern notation and accustoming performers to the “feel” of obsolete scale systems. For this the musical antiquarians deserve an extra bouquet. #2 8 = : From the National Music Educators Conference in St. Louis, the Jamestown, N. Y. OPERA TENOR
Here is a new Metropolitan Opera tenor already familiar to
radio fans. He is John’ Carter, who first came ‘into prominence when he pinch-hit for Nelson Eddy on the baritone’s Sunday night spot. Mr. Carter and Leonard Warren, another radio singer, were cowinners of the Metropolitan Auditions of the Air.
sent another forgotten work tonight in the Symphony No, 1 by William Boyce. Boyce was an English composer and organist who lived from 1710 to 1779. He was highly esteemed during ‘his lifetime, but today beneath the dome of St. Paul's he lies safely buried, except when an Alfred Walenstein remembers him. : Also on this evening's “Symphonic Strings” broadcast (MBS-WGN, 9 Pr. m) will be the Vokel arrangement of Bach's Fantasia in G Major; Griffes’ “Indian Sketches” and Hindeniith's String Suite, Opus 44, ® 0» » Two NBC-Blue programs, beginning at 2 p. m. tomorrow, will offer Dr. Paul Weingarten, Austrian pianist, in a 15-minute recital, and immediately afterward, a performance of Busoni’s Sonata No. 2 for piano and-violin, played by Ruth and Millard Taylor on the Eastman School
