Pu a. — Recreate ~ Fabulous Bagdad As Betting for ‘Aladdin’

Mini; sture Parts in Junior League Presentation Played With Finesse; Spring Styles - Displayed at Wild Oats Ball.

~The ancient Bagdad of fantasy and fame, flying carpets and wishing rings was brought to life vividly yesterday afternoon at the Herron Art Museum when the Junicr League _puppeteers presented “Aladdin and His Lamp.’ One could scarcely believe-that the little figures on the tiny stage who executed their parts so realistically were mere dolls, animated by human hands. From the smallest “walk on” to the principals, the parts were play=d with finesse and distinction against a handsome

back ground. Several years ago “Aladdin” was presented at the Children’s . Theater under the direction of Mrs. Rosamond VanCamp Hill who direced this performance. “It is one of the most interesting expericnces ‘I have ever had,” Mrs. Hill declared, “taking this play dow: from portrait dimensions to miniature size.” “Ars. Carl Vonnegut, who did the costumes for the Children’s The:ter productions dressed the marionettes with a dazzling effect. Exactly like something out of the Arabian Nights were the gleaming materials: used, highlighted with the glint of sequins and jewels.

From the fragile and lovely -princess, beloved of Aladdin, to the poor

strest beggar, the costumes were authentic Chinese and Persian. The sets, executed by Mrs. Noble Dean and Mrs. Henrik Mayer, wer> astonishing in their similarity to the Bagdad of one’s childhood dreams. Especially effective was the cave scene :.where the genii of the lamp and the ring come to our hero. A net was placed across

the stage to heighten the effect of sinister darkness and the hidden

treasure gleamed in the gloom. _ Mrs."George Fotheringham adapted the play, and Mrs. Hill directed. The cast included Mesdames John McEwen, Maxwell Coppock, Albert Lang, Miss Betty Brown and Miss Elsie Sinclair. Mrs. John D. Gould, general chairman, was assisted by Mrs. William Jungclaus, production; Mrs. Mayer and Mrs. Dean, scenic designers; Mrs. Vonnegut, ‘cost : Miss Helen Fleischer, bodies and building; Mrs. George Ziegler, electrician; Mrs. Fotheringham, Sound effects, and Mrs. James Rose, properties.

Far from being the rustic affair suggested by the title, the Indiana Saddle Horse Association’s “Wild Oats Ball” Saturday night at the Iridianapolis Athletic Club was a brilliant fashion parade. From the

sl m pencil silhouette to romantic “Winterhalter” gowns, spring ‘rends

were displayed. Mrs. William H. Wemmer chose “crushed grape” crepe with huge rhinestone butterflies at the neck and waistline. Her skirt emphasized th increasing importance of fullness to the front, and it was slit almost to the knee. | Miss Dorothy Johnson’s gown was of gold colored satin cut on Grecian lines with a full bodice. She wore sheaves of gold wheat in her hair. T Mrs. Elmer F. Straub, wife. of the organization president, wore

Aqua marquisette over taffeta: formed the bouffant gown of Miss Mary Elam. It was fashioned with a tiny taffeta boléro. © Mrs. J. I. Burgundy Girdle Accents White Satin

White dots on a black background with lace around the square neckline and short puff sleeves formed the dinner dress of Mrs. Edward P. Gallagher. The mode for fringe was displayed in the chalk white dinner gown of Miss Isabel Connelly. Bands of white fringe encircled the er tire crepe body of her gown. In her hair was a cluster of white flowers. Mrs. D. P. Johnson, Norfolk, Va., who is visiting her mother Mrs. Stanley Timberlake at the Marott Hotel, was gowned in black marquisette appliqued with white leaves. Mist grey chiffon accented with yellow flowers at the neckline 2nd a girdle of green chartreuse and yellow was the choice of Mrs. August C. Bohlen. The gown was cut on flowing lines. Mrs. Carl Dean's dancing dress of blush pink tulle was fashioned vith a shirred bodice and bouffant skirt. - Lipstick red moire gown on princess lines with matching flowers in her hair was the costume of Mrs. J. Perry Mzek. : Miss Esther Jane Throckmorton’s gown showed the current - vogue for capes. Her floor length pink georgette cape was worn over 2 matching gown with gardenias at the neckline.

Cape Worn With Midnight Blue Chiffon

Mrs. Wallace O. Lee wore midnight blue chiffon on flowing lines svith a knee length cape. Her ti were brilliant clips and gardenias.
