Metals Barely Steady; Steel Issues Are Strongest.

NEW YORK, March 24 (U. P)— Tike stock market sagged in moderate turnover during the early dealings today. Around noon losses ranged to more than two points in nearly all sections. Steels held better than other groups but they lost most of early gains that ranged to more than a point.

U. S. Steel lost a half point gain and was at the previous close of 48. Bethlehem was up 1% at 51% while Republic and Youngstown registered small losses, Motors held at yesterday's clos levels. Prices -were barely steady for the coppers and lower for the silvers. U. S. Smelting lost 232 points to a new low at 62. Sante Fe equaled its low at 25%, off %. Central and Pennsylvania held small advances. Eastman dropped 6% points to 135. Thermoid

of the year and caught up with the decline by selling at 15, a net loss of 20% points.

Despite Increase Company Fails to Earn Preferred Dividend Quota.

increased $303,954.55 last year as compared with 1936, officials announced today. Despite this increase, the company lacked ;$193,520.29 of earning its preferred dividend requirements, and at the close of 1937 there was

Gross operating revenue was $14,464,009.50 in 1937, an increase of $220,879.84 over 1936. Operating expenses and taxes were $10,361,764.47, a decrease of $237,242.46 compared with the previous year. The company supplies utility services in 52 counties in central and southern Indiana, and at the close of the year had 136, 681 electric customers, 37,743 gas, 21.371 water and 134 heating eéustomers. The company has 14,597 stockholders, 5956 of whom live in Indiana. No dividends on preferred stock have been paid since October, 1933, and the company at the close of the year was in arrears $4,890,706.13 on preferred stock dividends.
