Mayor ~avors Legal Action In Extreme Cases of Nonco-operation.
Legal aciion will be taken in “extreme cases” where property owners fail to co-operate with the City in its fight on smoke and soot, Mayor Boetcher ad told the Smoke Abate-
ment League today. His statement was in reply to a request for “legal discipline” made by the League at a meeting yesterday at City Hall.
Mayor Boetcher explained that]
the Administration is attempting an educational program against the smoke nuisance and that the wholesale arresting of violators might tend to drive ‘uture industries from the city. Nam-d as Smoke Violators Roy O. Johnson, league attorney, turned over to J. W. Clinehens, City Combustion Engineer, a list of 25 alleged smoke ordinance violators in the mile square. Mr. Clinehens said these would be given ample time to comply with the smoke orr dinance 2nd if they failed, he would start legz1 proceedings. Mr. Jo! n said that the smoke ordinance” applied to residents as well as industries and that residents should be liable to the same treatment as the industrial violators.
