The sootfall survey, conducted by WPA workers under direction of J. W. Clinehens, combustion engineer, showed last month's sootfall amounted to 851 tons, 247 less than January's total. ~ The area around Massachusetts Ave. and Rural St. recorded the heaviest sootfall in February with 28.85 tons to the square mile. The mile square area around Beville Ave. and E. New York St., the City's worst smoke district for the past several months, showed a decrease of 25.39 tons.

Cleanest area in the City during February was in the vicinity of 29th and Harding Sts. Sootfall was 6.16 tons a square mile. Next in clean‘ness were the 54th St. and College Ave. "and the 38th and Meridian ‘Sts. ‘districts with a sootfall of only 12.86 and 8.62 tons, respectively. Sootfall on the City Hall roof was 18.35 tons this month as comrared with 2256 tons in January.
