Scripps Personal Estate Left in Family Trust [3

CINCINNATI, March 16 (U. P.).—The will of the late ‘Robert P. Scripps, controlling stockholder of the Scripps-Howard Newspapers and associated enterprises, was| filed in Probate Court at Hamilton, Butler terson of Cleveland, general counsel and controller for the Scripps-Howard Newspapers and attorney for Mr. Seripps.

Under its terms, the by Mr. Scripps on July. 12, 1935, provides that his widow, Mrs. Margaret C. Scripps, is bequeathed all of his personal effects, with his business properties left in trust for wife and children after some minor specific bequests. The will filed today is not concerned with the control and management of Scripps-Howard. |By the terms, of a trust agreement made in 1922 by Mr. Scripps’ father, E. W. Scripps, founder of the TippsHoward organization, control of the Scripps-Howard concern is left in the hands of a three-man board of trustees composed of Robert P. Scripps’. associates, Roy W. Howard, W. W. Hawkins and George B. Parker, editor-in-chief of the Scripps-Howard Newspapers. These three were designated as Robert P. Scripps’ successors by Mr. Scripps himself under authority delegated to him under the trust agreement set up by E. W. Scripps in 1922. In the will filed today another board of trustees is created for the property left by Robert P. Scripps, which, in addition to Mrs. Scripps, includes Paul Patterson and {Harry L. Smithton of Cincinnati, lifelong associate of Mr. Scripps and also of his father. This board likewise acts as executors of the estate. Upon the death eof Mrs. Scripps the estate is to: be ‘divided equally among the six children. Under the will provision is made for annuities to Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Merigold of San Diego, Cal.,, and for several members of the Scripps household staff. Mr. Merigold was a lifetime companion of Mr, Scripps.’ |
