GEORGE LAKEY, VETERAN UNION OFFICIAL, DIES
Vice President of Carpenters Had Been Active Leader For Many Years.
George H. Lakey, veteran official of the United Brotherhood of Car- . penters and Joiners of America, died early today at Methodist Hospital. He had been ill. several months.
Mr. Lakey, a native of Chicago, served his carpentry apprenticeship _in Chicago. He jpined the Brotherhood in 1899 and served Local 58. Chicago, many years in various official capacities until he was named a general organizer by international headquarters.
He was named second vice president to the Brotherhood in 1915 and held that office until September, 1929, when.he became first vice president, the post he held until his death. . ; He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Myrtle Lakey; a - daughter, Mrs. Edith Clark, and a stepdaughter, Thelma Dawson. The family home is at 4901 Washington Blvd. He also is survived by sisters, Mrs. Adrian Starrett, and Mrs. Alice Olsen of Chicago, and Mrs. William Thompson, Philadelphia, and brothers A. B. Lakey, of Lansing, Mich., and Charles and Frank of Chicago. Funeral arrangements have not . been completed.
EDWARD H. KATTERHENRY, who died Saturday at his home, 14 E. Regent St, was to be buried at Crown Hill following services at 2 p. m, today at Second Reformed Church. Mr. Katterhenry, who was 70, was foreman at the Hide & Leather Belting Co. until he retired eight years ago. He was a member of Second Reformed Church and its Men’s Aid Society. He is survived by his wife Bena.
MRS. MARY 8S. ROSE, resident of Indianapolis 40 years, died yesterday at her home, 3036 N. Capitol Ave. She was 82. She was the widow of Nelson James Rose, former Lafayette merchant who died. in 1910. She is survived by a son, Howard B. Rose, and a daughter, Mrs. Maude Deutsch, both of Indianapolis. Funeral arrangements have not been completed.
JOHN CHISLETT, retired former Indianapolis landscape engineer, who died yesterday in La Jolla, a suburb of San Diego, Cal, will be buried in Indianapolis. He was 82. Services, which will be here, have not been completed. Mr. Chislett, who had lived in La Jolla seven-years, served as the seccnd superintendent of Crown Hill Cemetery from 1899 to 1910. His father, Frederic Chislett, was “the first superintendent.

LABOR PROTEST HITS STATE POLICEAUTOS
Protests over purchases of State Police autos from agencies on the labor unfair list have been voiced by the Indianapolis Central Labor Union. Meeting last night, the. group named Adolph J. Fritz, Indiana State Federation of Labor secretary; Hugh Gormley, Indiana A. F. of L. representative; Courtney Hammond, Central Labor Union president, and Don’ Bprneclo, secretary, on a committee to formal protest. . Action a resolution from a Central Labor Union in Oregon demanding a Federal investigation of the National Labor Relations Board was held in abeyance, Mr. Hammond said. The local group has made np demand for such an in-

More than 50 representatives of civic organizations, clubs, ParentTeacher Associations and other groups attended the opening session of the five-week course in proper firing Saturday. T. A. Day, .Cincinnati, will have charge of the Thursday series. Among speakers at the Saturday class were O. A. Dady, designer and builder of the first coal stoker for househeld use; Roy O. PNEUMONIA DEATHS
DROP IN FEBRUARY
Decrease Also Shown in Number of Measles Cases.
Dr. Herman G. Morgan, Health Board secretary, reported 58 deaths from pneumonia were recorded here in Pebruary. At the same time, he said, there were 256 cases of measles reported, showing a slight decrease from the January total. There were 77 pneumonia deaths in December and. 72 in January. Dr. Morgan credited the spell of sunny weather early in. February for the decrease in last month’s death rate.
TELEPHONE OPERATOR FINISHES 30TH YEAR
Mrs. Ida Belle Peacher, 2423 Brookside Ave., an operator at the Cherry office of the Indiana Bell Telephone Co., today had celebrated 30 years of continuous service. She began her telephone carger as an operator with the Cumberland Telephone: & Telegraph Co. at Clarksville, Tenn. in November, 1907. Ten years later she was transferred to the former Central Union Telephone Co. here. She has been in the Cherry office since.
