Dr. Verne K. Harvey to Be|
A Principal Speaker At Session.
The Indiana Antisyphilis Committee of the American Social Hygiene Association is to hold its first luncheon: meeting at 12:30 p. m. Thursday at Hotel Lincoln, Dr. Frank S. C. Wicks, chairman, announced today. Dr. Wicks and Mrs. Evans Woolen Jr., vice chairman, said civic support of the program was evident in the number of acceptances already sent the committee. Principal speakers and their subjects will be Dr. Verne K. Harvey, state health commissioner, “Indiana’'s State Program for Syphilis Control,” and Dr. Frank B. Gastineau, “A Survey of Syphilis in Indianapolis.” Short discussions of the anti-

the present wide ‘interest in the eradication of the great plague syphilis,” Drs Wicks said. “As Dr. Thomas Parran, U. S. surgeon general, has said, it is a task not for health agencies or physicians alone, but for the whole people. The American Social Hygiene Association is the one national voluntary agency concerned with prevention and cure of venereal diseases,” Dr. Wicks declared. He pointed out co-operation of physicians, public health and voluntary agencies reduced the tuberculosis toll by 60 per cent in the last quarter century. “This bright chapter can be repeated in the reduction of the twin plagues, syphilis and, gonorrhea, which blind, deafen, cripple, craze and kill,” he said.

| The principal charge is that the law
conflicts with a Congressional act, and abrogates a contract between the Federal and State Governments, providing for distribution of U. 8. road funds to the State. Enforcement of the tax is scheduled to begin March 1.
SOCIAL SECURITY ACT
The Social Security Act was characterized as “direct and concealed taxation” by Erle Kightlinger, attorney, in an address before the Irvington Republican Club last night. He termed the Government's gold policy as “currency manipulation” and declared that the intellectual honesty that made Washington great is deficient in the present national leadership.
