“Squaring the Circle” to Be Presented by Thespis at Campus Workshop.
Preparations were made today for the presentation of “Squaring the Circle” by members of Thespis, Butler University dramatic society, Feb. 25 and Feb. 26 at the Thespis workshop on the Fairview campus. Committee members include Ralph Martz, stage settings; Pequetti Helton, stage manager; Jane Deranian and Fairetta DeVault, costumes; Mary Clay, publicity; Julia Raymond, properties; Rosemary Byrket, ticket chairman, assisted by Max Wildman, Dorothy Defenderfer, Margaret Lorenz, Kathryn Hadley, Eloise Foreman, Jay Fix, Miss Raymond, Elizabeth Manly, Michael Bagnoli-and- Miss Helton. Members of the cast are William Stoup, James Hawkins, Wildman, Kryter, Mary Lou Over, Catherine Clay, Fix, Walter Noffke, Pequetti Helton, LaVonne Maloof, Julia Ray-
mond, Montrew Goetz and Ralph
Martz. Production will be under the direction of Mrs. Jane Ogburn Bruce, ‘university dramatic director and Thespis faculty sponsor.
Guest speaker at a meeting of the Butler University Spanish Club will be Miss Ruth Lewman, head of the Spanish department at Shortridge High School, at 7:30 p. m. Tuesday at Jordan Memorial Hall. Plans will be discussed for aiding children in war-torn Spain. Hostesses will be Misses Charlotte Griffin, Lilly Gebhardt and Rosemary Byrket.
HOUSING NEEDS CALLED ACUTE
Meeting Hears Values of Wagner-Steagall Act Discussed.
The National Housing Act will enable persons of low income to obtain .adequate housing which they do not have now, William B. F. Hall, Ft. Wayne insurance man, said here. He spoke at Hotel Washington yesterday before a meeting of 150 realtors, building and loan executives, -insurance and businessmen, sponsored by the Indianapolis Real Estate Board. Mr, Hall said that at present new and adequate housing is limited to 10 per cent of the population. He Soutended that Indianapolis has ,7100 dwelling units” without sanitary plumbing provisions and that 14500 of these do not have running water. He explained that the Wagner Steagall Act provides housing authorities that are able to raise as much as 10 per cent for subsidized housing and slum clearance.:= He said amendments provide Federal Housing Administration ‘insurance of loans of private capital up to 20 per cent of valuation.
REPORT NIGHOLSON ‘MAY BE REPLACED
State Department Silent on Rumored Change.
Times Special WASHINGTON, Feb. 18—State
Department officials today refused to comment on a report that Meredith Nicholson, famed Hoosier author, may be replaced as Minister to Venezuela by Antonio Gonzalez, now American Minister to Ecuador.
Mr. Nicholson first was appointed envoy extraordinary and minister plenipotentiary to Paragudy by President Roosevelt. A little more than a_ year ago he was transferred, - at his own request, to the same post in Venezuela. Accompanied by his wife, he visited both here and in Indianapolis before moving from Asuncion to Caracas. Mr. Gonzales’s present headquarters is at Quito.
FARLEY MAY SPEAK AT DEDICATION HERE
Postmaster General James A. Farley may speak at dedication of the new Federal Building wing May 21, Postmaster Adolph Seidensticker announced today. About 2000 persons are expected to attend a banquet following the services. This.meeting, Mr. Seidensticker said, “will have no political aspects whatever, but will mark a milestone in the progress made by this Administration to develop public work.” The conventions of the postmasters, postal clerks and postal supervisors are scheduled for May 21.
CONDITION IMPROVES - The condition - of William W. Spencer, father of Prosecutor Herbert M. Spencer, who is ill at his home, 3224 N. Illinois St., was reported improved today.
