‘Lunch Box Case’ Stirs ‘Police as Culprit Roams- City.
Patrolman Freeman Smock had a chance to do a little clever detective work and catch a “dirty crook,” but he muffed it. The patrolman stepped out of the emergency room at headquarters for a short time. When he returned he picked up’ his lunch box and prepared to eat lunch. He found the box had been soldered shut. It required nearly an hour's work with a hammer and chisel to get to the lunch. After he had broken open the
box he decided to trace the culprit by his fingerprints.
Then he found - that he had |
handled the box so- much in open~ ing it that he could discover no prints but his own. So he gave up.
