- NEW YORK, Feb. 16 (U. P.) .—Stocks reacted fractions to more than a point after an irregularly higher opening today, but developed rallying tendencies around mid-ses-sion. Trading continued quiet, Stee] shares rebounded as much as a point from early lows, but held fractional losses. U. S. Steel sold at 52%, off % after reaching 52. Losses in rails also were scaled,
Atchison at 35 recovering half of an earlier point loss. American Telephone opened at 135%, reacted to 134 then came back to 13412, off -8 net. Motors improved with Chrysler off 3 to 53% after a 13 point loss. Copper shares, which were strong early but reacted to small losses, ~ came back to around previous closing levels. Such issues as Air Reduction, Allis Chalmers, American Locomotive, Du Point, International . Harvester, Johns Manville, Loew's, Montsanto Chemical, Philip Morris ‘ and Union Carbide were off a point and more each.

CHICAGO, Feb. 16 (U.'P.) —Com- _ mission house buying checked the early downturn in wheat prices today on the Chicago Board of Trade. At the end of the first hour wheat was unchanged to 5 cent lower, corn was sz to 14 cent lower and - oats were % cent ower. . Price movements were nervous during much of the session but buying on the part of commission houses served as a stabilizer. Rallying tendencies, however, were not particularly impressive. "A small business in North Americans was reported by exporters during the - morning, The reviving rains and snows of the southwest territory were the chief depressing factor as ‘much of the area was restored through the precipitation of the last Iwo days.
