The State Welfare Board today had adopted unanimously a resolution providing that “any employee of a county welfare department who becomes a candidate for nomination to an elective public office must resign at least 42 days before the primary election.” At a regular meeting yesterday, the Board also ordered that “any county welfare employee who becomes a candidate for an elective public office which is remunerative, other than by primary election

Mr. Mangels picked up a piece of cheese. The bandit fired, the bullet creased Mr. Mangels’ hair. Mr. Mangels threw the cheese. The robber fled without any loot.

The Calumet Paving Co. of Indianapolis today was awarded a $277,219 contract by the State Highway Commission for paving four miles on Road 66 from two miles west of Maxville to one mile southeast of Troy. A $1671 contract for construction of a scale house on Road 41 near St. John was awarded to Tonn & Blank, Inc, Michigan City. The house is to replace one burned several weeks ago. Specifications for the Road 66 project call for a 20-foot pavement and elimination of curves. Work is to be completed Nov. 15.

WELDING COURSE OPENS

A new course in electric welding offered by the Y. M. C. A. Trade Schools will open at 7:30 tomorrow night with Paul Kitsko as instructor. Classes will meet each Monday, Wednesday and Friday night for seven weeks.
