HEARING SET ON 2 APARTMENTS, ~~ COSTING $60,000

For Buildings at Linwood And Pleasant Run.

A request of Business Properties, Inc, for variance in the zoning law to permit the erection of two three- \ story apartment buildings, totaling $60,000 at Pleasant Run Boulevard . and Linwood Ave. is to be considered by the Board of Zoning Appeals at a meeting Monday.

- According to the request, the two , structures will have 33 units each and 60 one-stall garages. ney will be located at the northwest and northeast corners of the intersection. Details of the plans for the structure, it was understood, are being withheld pending an application . now filed in Washington for a Fed- _ eral Housing Administration loan.

THOMPSON ORDERED . TO PAY FLOOD FUND

' CHICAGO, Feb. 3 (U. P.).—Attorneys for William H. (Big Bill) Thompson, former Republican Mayor, prepared today to appeal an Appellate Court order that he must pay to the American Red Cross $72.794 he collected for Southern flood relief in 1927, Atty. Gen. Otto Kerner charged that most of the $139,772 subscribed by Chicagoans after Mr. Thompson made a proclamation in behalf of flood relief was spent for purposes other than relief. Attempts to compel surrender of the entire sum, excepting about $35,000 actually spent for relief, was started in 1933. The Appellate Court ruled that Mr. Thompson must account for the money within a period to be set by the Circuit Court.

CAMERAMAN’S SON ADOPTED BY POWELL

HOLLYWOOD, Feb 3 (U, P).— Dick Powell, the movie crooner, has legally adopted 3-year-old Norman Scott Barnes, the son of his wife, Joan Blondell, by a former marriage to George Barnes, cameraman, ° Mr. Barnes consented to the adoption and probation officers, who investigated the case, reported to Judge Robert Scott yesterday that the boy idolizes Mr. Powell and had boasted to them: “I don’t just sing a little song, I sing a big song like daddy.” Miss Blondell has revealed that ® Norman will have a brother or sister in about six months.

MIAMI, Fla., Feb. 3 (U. P.).—The American Federation of Labor executive council meets today—two years after it first ordered the Committee for Industrial Organization to disband—to decids what action it will take. There were strong indications that the present anomalous situation would be left as is with the 10 insurgent unions under suspension. George M. Harrison, chairman of the three-man peace committee which unsuccessfully sought a settlement last fall, expected to submit a report on those negotiations.

STEEL NEGOTIATIONS ON WAGES TO BEGIN

PITTSBURGH, Feb. 3

U. P).— The Steel Workers Organizing Committee today announced a

meeting for next Monday of presidents of all local units in CarnegieIllinois Steel Corp. plants to discuss contract renewal negotiations with United States Steel Corp. The contract negotiations are scheduled to begin on the same day, but Clinton S. Golden, regional S. W. O. C. director, said actual conferences between union leaders and company officials may not take place for several days.
