Local prep fives won three of six games last night, Park, Shortridge and Washington winning while Tech, Broad Ripple and Crispus Attucks lost. Shortridge provided last night's feature by spilling up-and-coming Crawfordsville, 39 to 30, on the Athenian floor. Shortridge and Tech battle South Central foes in features of tonight's local prep schedule, as Manuel, Sacred Heart and Broad Ripple also see action, Rushville’s Lions invade Shortridge and Connersville’s Spartans take the floor against Coach Bayne Freeman’s netters at Tech. Manual will entertain Brownsburg and Sacred Heart will meet St. Paul's of Marion on the Cathedral floor. Broad Ripple, the lone traveler, commutes to nearby Beech Grove. Washington defeated Franklin, 32 to 26, at Tech Gym last night. Park won its seventh straight victory, topping Oaklandon, 34 to 26, at the Lawrence Gym. Featuring the triumph was the winners’ feat of scoring 14 points in the third quarter while holding Oaklandon scoreless. Capt. Bernie Broderick connected on seven field shots and three charity tosses to register 17 markers for Park. Muncie climbed to the top of the North Central Conference by thumping Tech, 31 to 21, at Muncie. Crispus Attucks lost, 25-to-22, at Quincy, Ind. Johnny Yovan, formerly of Manual, and Otha Dobbs, ex-Tech star, led the Buddies. Two former Shortridge netters, Fred Fobes and Kelsey MecDaniels, led the Printers. Butler ends its Michigan invasion tonight against Detroit U. in one of seven games involving state college fives. Three other Indiana quintets will play out of the state. Earlham begins an eastward journey which will end in Madison Square Garden at New York with a game against Long Island U. The Quakers stop off tonight at Witteaberg, O. to battle the Wittenberg College tossers. Within the state, Ball State's contest at North Manchester against the Manchester Spartans is the headline attraction. Butler's Bulldogs lost the first of their two games with Michigan rivals last night, bowing before Michigan State at East Lansing, 21 to 15. While the Bulldogs fell at East Lansing, Indiana Central was .| trouncing Huntington, 54 to 34, here. Although Coach Harry Good used 17 players, Indiana Central scored almost at will. Missing from the Central lineup were star guards Tony Sharpe and Hugh Hise, not yet enrolled for the second semester. Their registration is expected within the next few days. In the third game of last night's collegiate play, Anderson battered Taylor, 47 to 36. Taylor led, 11 to 2. early in the game but was in a Je Bu tie with the host five at the half.

TERRE HAUTE, Jan. 29.—Plainville’s defending champions were scheduled to battle Bloomfield in the second of two semifinal games as the Wabash Valley tournament neared a close here today. In the opening semifinal scrap this afternoon, Sullivan’s Arrows meet Bruceville with the Arrows favored to win and face Plainville tonight for the championship. Bruceville furnished yesterday's piggest surprise with a 25-to-21 victory over Wiley of Terre Haute, a pretourney favorite.

When the Cincinnati Reds | into action tomorrow afternoon at the Armory against the local Kautskv A. C. netmen, the Reds will be using a lineup composed almost entirelv of native Ohioans. Second Term to Start Monday
Second semester registration at Butler University is to be held Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, school officials announced today. Evening division students are to register on Monday and Tuesday from 3 to 5 p. m. Day students are to register from 8 a. m. to 5 p. m. Wednesday. Approximately 1500 day students are expected to enroll, it was stated. University offices were to remain open until noon today for conferences with students.

More than 80 players were expected to compete in the Open Pair division of the State Contract Bridge Championships, Which opened today at Hotel Lincoln. The tournament is to continue tomorrow with team-of-four events at 11:30 a. m. and 4:30 p. m.
The Indianapolis Bridge Association, local unit of the American Contract Bridge League, was to be formed at today’s meeting. Entries for the championships have been received from Louisville, Chicago, Cincinnati and Cleveland and several Indiana cities. The tournament is the first major meet to be held in this section under the new American Bridge League, according to M. Porter Walley, chairman. Tenn.) to attach a sweeping patronage rider to the Independent Offices Appropriations Bill. The McKellar amendment, broadest of a recent series of moves for civil service exemption, proposes that all jobs in the Government's independent agencies with salaries of $4000 or more be exempt from civil service examinations and subject to Senate confirmation. Women Voters Lead Attack

The attack on the McKellar amendment is being led by the National League of Women Voters. The Civil Service Commission has issued a public statement of warning. “This proposal is in direct opposition to the stated beliefs of the President of the United States,” the Commission said.
