SEEK EXTENSION OF BUS SERVICE

Central Ave. Line Asked by North Side Residents.

The Indiana Public Service Com=mission today studied an unopposed petition calling for extension of the Central Ave. bus line. E. F. Hasse, 6512 Central Ave, in presenting testimony for the 76 residents and property owners who filed the petition, said the extension was needed in an area which now has inadequate transportation service. Indianapolis Railways, Inc, is willing to make the extension, James P. Tretton, vice president and general manager, said at yesterday’s public hearing. “We have talked to a number of people in the vicinity of 65th St. and College Ave. about this plan,” he said. “Some of the proposed route is over unimproved streets. We would be willing to operate our busses as long as these streets are in a good state of repair.” Present terminal of the Central Ave. bus line is at 64th St. Under the proposed extension the busses would go east on 64th St. to Broadway, north on Broadway to 65th St., east on 65th St. to College Ave, south on College Ave. to 64th St. and west on 64th St. to Central Ave,

Judge Merrill E. Otis of Federal District Court at Kansas City, Mo.,, 1s to be the principal speaker at the annual midwinter banquet of the Indiana State Bar Association at the Claypool Hotel Feb. 5, it was announced today. Judge Otis’ Modern Judge Views an Ancient Trial.” He is nationally known as having been among the first to declare the NRA unconstitutional and for his decisions on major Federal legislation. At the afternoon session, Feb, §, 0. R. McGuire, counsel to the Controller General of the United States, will speak. Judges Will M. Sparks and Walter E. Treanor are to be special guests.

Harvard Graduate to Talk On Kirshbaum Forum Series Sunday.

Dr. No-Yong Park, a Chinese lecturer, is to speak on “What Is the Outlook in the Far East?” at 8:15 p. m, Sunday at Kirshbaum Community Center. The talk is third in the Open Forum series sponsored by

Indianapolis Jewish Community Center. Dr. Park was a Harvard Uni-

versity student and an International Relations prize-winner, and is regarded an authority on the com-

plicated Far East situation. At Harvard, he majored in International Relations, writing his

doctorate dissertation on China and the League of Nations. Other works include “Making a New China,” “An Oriental View of American Civilization,” and his latest book, “Retreat of the West.” Dr. Park recently was guest speaker on the Lowell Thomas radio program,

ARMY RESERVES T0 TAKE COURSE

State Medical Association to Give Instructions to 300 Officers.

The Indiana State Medical Association, at the request of Army officers, is to give a course in medical military instruction to all medical reserve officers in this area and to members of the association May 23 to May 27, it was announced today. More than 300 reserve officers are expected to obtain military credit for attendance. The association's graduate educa=tion committee recommended the move in preparation for any national emergency, it was said. Officials believe it to be the first project of its kind in the country,

3 Officers Resign

Adjt. Gen. Elmer F. Straub has announced that annual Indiana National Guard armory inspections will begin March 1. They will be conducted by regular National Guard officers. Three officers have resigned their commissions, according to National Guard headquarters announcement, They are Capt. Richard E. Meier, 152d Infantry, and Capt. Robert A, Schwenker, 139th Field Artillery, both of Evansville, and Second Lieutenant Lehman W. Cooprider, 1561st Infantry, Terre Haute, Lieut. Norman G. Fischer has i been transferred from 1st Battalion | to take Capt. Meier's place as Company A commanding officer, and | Sergt, Robert W. King has been recommended for second lieutenant appointment to take Lieut. Cooprider’s place.

State convention of the Travelers’ Protective Association is to be held at the Claypool Hotel May 18 and 14, it was announced today by the Indianapolis Convention Bureau. The convention date was set by directors of the association meeting here during the week-end. William Frohmuth, Ft. Wayne, is association | president, and O. F. Stevens, Indianapolis, is secretary.
