NO OCEAN FLIER NOW, LINDBERGH DEGLARES

He Shuns Invitation to Go Before Ludlow Committee.

Times Special WASHINGTON, Charles A. Lindbergh, whose New York to Paris flight made him a world hero in 1927, is “no authority

on flying the Atlantic today,” he has written Rep. Ludlow (Dem. Ind.). As chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Treasury and Postoffice, Mr. Ludlow had invited Col. Lindbergh to appear to testify regarding transoceanic airmail flying. Col. Lindbergh replied: “I greatly appreciate your invitation to appear before your Committee, but I do not feel that I am sufficiently well acquainted with recent developments to justify expressing my opinion at this time. “I am, of course, greatly interested in the development of transoceanic airlines, and in the construction of long range transport planes. However, I have not been in close contact with many phases of aviation for over two years, and I would want to spend several months studying the existing situation before stating my views on the problems in which your Committee is interested.”

Porker Prices Unchanged on Local Market

Except for a 5c gain on weights scaling 200 to 210 pounds, there was no change throughout today’s hog trade, according to tke Bureau of Agricultural Economics. Receipts of around 1500 head were cleaned up early under good action on both shipper and local killer account. Top was held at $9 for best 150 to 170-pound averages, maintaining a relatively high position in comparison with other nearby major terminals. Packing sows bulked at $6 to $6.75, latter price practical top. Compared with the close last week, hogs scaling upward to 200 pounds are steady, with 200 to 220-pound weights 5 to 10 cents lower. Butchers from 220 to 260 pounds are 15 to 20 cents off, while heavy hogs above 260 pounds declined 35 cents. Packing sows are mostly 25 cents lower. Today's cattle trade was the usual Saturday nominal affair. Socalled “cheaper” priced steers are around 25 cents higher for the week while steers valued at $9 or above are off as much as 25 cents. Several loads this week made $9 to $9.70 with nothing strictly finished offered. The week's bulk steers ranged from $6.50 to $8 grading common to low good. Slaughter heifers advanced 25 cents to extremes 50 cents for the period, lighter, handy weights up most. Bulk heifers $5.75 to $7.50, good 760 and 870-pound weights $8. All grades cows ruled strong in a dependable market, cutter grades bulking from $4 to $5, beef cows mostly $5 to $6, the practical limit $6. Bulls closed firm, best heavies $6.50 and $6.75. Country finishers are taking more interest in replacement stock, feeding steers from $6 to $7.65 going out more freely. WHEAT PRICES DIP A FRACTION; MARKET IS FIRM

Argentine Corn Crop Yield To Be Small, Is Report.

CHICAGO, Jan, 15 (U, P.).—Ad~ vances in security prices, gains at Buenos Aires and continued lack of moisture in the southwest exerted a mild bullish influence on wheat on the Chicago Board of Trade toe day and the market was moderate= ly firm most of the session. There was an uncertain undercurrent, however, and the trend lacked

direction, turning lower toward the close. At the close wheat was 4 to % cent lower, May 97% cents; corn was 1s to % cent higher, May 601% cents and oats were unchanged to % cent higher, May 317 cents. Buying by commission houses was a feature of early trade. Ex port interest was slight. Govern ment forecasts for light rains in the West and West Central states dure ing the coming week laid a restraining hand on tendencies to rally. Corn prices were mixed at the opening. Price changes were small but the market drew some encour« agement from an unofficial estimate that the Argentine ccrn crop probably will be about 125,000,000 under a year ago when the yield was the smallest since 1924-25, Early trade was mixed and of slene der volume. Liverpool closed unchanged to a small fraction lower after a final hour rally which boosted prices about 1 cent. Late buying was credited to short covering. Cheaper offers of American winter wheat and the reaction in North Amer ican markets yesterday were dee pressing factors.
