WELFARE TEST SHOWS HIGHER TYPE APPLICANT

Of 7229 Who Toc Took Written Examinations, 4554 Are Passed.

Merit examinations for State

Public Welfare Department Unemployment Compensation Division positions “are attracting a much higher type of applicant than . originally,” Richard W. Bunch, Personnel Bureau director, said today in a report prepared for the State Public Welfare Board. Recent junior clerk-typist and junior clerk-stenographer examinations show at least a 25 to 50 per cent improvement in grades of applicants on the eligible lists in com3 parison with the original lists, Mr. Bunch said. Of 12231

s—

employment applications last year, 7229 took written examinations. More than 4554 passed the complete examinations and were placed on eligible lists. “We know that type of individuals have been re1 cruited to fill vacancies as they § have occurred and that this fact is amply demonstrated by the quality of work being performed by the Public Welfare Department and i Unemployment Compensation Divi- , sion,” he said.
