Banquet Tonight to Close Builders’ Supply Dealers’ 54th Convention.

The Indiana Lumber and Builders’ Supply Association is to close its 54th annual convention with a banquet at the Claypool Hotel tonight. At a dealers’ breakfast meeting, Don Campbell, Lebanon, Ky. National Retail Lumber Dealers Association president, discussed “The 1938 Small Homes Program.” W. H.

O’Brien and W. W, Woodbridge also spoke,

No session is to be held this afternoon. Next year's convention again is to be held at the Claypool Hotel, officials stated. Convention delegates yesterday heard M. B. Jensen, general merchandising manager of the Insulite Co. Chicago., urge the industry to cement friendships with the public. Prices Held Fair

Charging that 1934-35 retail prices have been used as an “unfair vardstick,” Mr. Jensen said that propaganda that homes cost too much was a major factor in creating a recession in “the one major industry which could help all others get back on their feet.” “Although the industry as a whole is in urgent need of a definite public relations policy, I predict a solid growth during 1938,” Mr. Jensen said. Dr. Arthur Weimer of the Indiana University School of Business Administration, told delegates that relative prices will determine whether or not there is to be a revival in the building trades this year. “The building industry is in competition with all others for a slice

NYA PUPLS’ GRADES MEET STATE AVERAGE

In Some Cases They Are Higher, Survey Shows.

Scholastic rankings of Indiana high school pupils employed on National Youth Administration projects usually equal or excel those of other pupils in their schools, State

Administration officials said today.

A survey of 611 state high schools showed that NYA employment does

not interfere with school work, they said, In 430 schools, NYA pupils’ grades were equal to the average of the entire student body; in 100 schools they were above, and in only 81 did they fall below, the survey showed. High school NYA projects now employ 7000 boys and girls in Indiana.
