games to master, provided you go about it in the correct way and follow a systematic method of learning the game First the freshman bowler obtain the proper ball, that is, that fits his hand Then he must learn to hold it in the correct manner. At thousandth of an inch what a bowler needs.

If you have the proper ball, the second joint of the third finger will be directly over the inner edge of its hole. If you use a three-fingerea ball, second joints of both fingers will rest in the same manner. A ball that is too wide will cause the bowler to press his grip and result in a backup ball. One that is

R |Preddie Apostoli of San Francisco Sab ‘was a pound and a half over the RLF Ne | middleweight limit today when he TN was examined for a 12-round nontitle fight with Champion Freddie Steele of Tacoma. Apostoli weighed 161: and Steele 158%. It is not a title fight, but if it | were it could not be more import. | ant to Apostoli. Tt took nearly three vears of relentless pursuit to land the Californian this over-the-weight match, and if he does not win it or fails to make an impressive showing, he may never get Steele to give him a shot at the title. A victory virtually would force Freddy to risk his crown this summer. Although it shapes up as one of the best fights in months, the ticket sale has been slow and no more than 10,000 are expected to witness the “grudge match,” so called because of the feud between the rival managers, It is a “hot” fight that has grown “cold” because of postponement from its original date of Nov. 12. Tt had to be called off when the titleholder was injured in training. Steele is a 13-5 favorite to repeat [ the 1935 victory in which he gashed | Apostoli's cheek so badly the referee | stopped the fight in the 10th round. A difference between Steele's late manager, Dave Miller, and Larry White, Apostoli's manager, forestalled a return match until Fred stopped Marcel Thil last summer. The international boxing union had recoghized Thil as champion of the division, and Apostoli forced Steele's hew manager, Dave's brother, Eddie Miller, to give him this indoor match.
