Cooper leads the money winners of 1937 and once more has the lowest average score. The British-born luminary also accounted for the Canadian Open. Henry Cotton kept the British Open crown at home for the second time by repulsing members of the American Ryder Cup team at historic Carnoustie. The Yankees fared better in the Ryder Cup competition, being the first American squad in the history

Rules to Be Topic
Most of the nation’s leading football coaches, athletic directors and collegiate sports figures were gathered here for the annual convention of the National Collegiate Athletic Association and the American Football Coaches Association during Sugar Bowl week. The football coaches will meet tomorrow, Thursday and Friday to discuss the various trends of the game, including possible rule changes. One of the chief topics of discussion among the coaches was the Sugar Bowl game Saturday between Santa Clara, one of the nation’s four major unbeaten and untied teams, and Louisia State,
runnerup for the Southeastern] s
title. Tiny Thornhill, Stanford coach whose team lost fo Santa Clara, 13 to 7, brought glowing praise of the Broncos. The Sugar Bowl sports program is well under way with a full calendar of events which will wind up with a track meet of champions Sunday. High program was the beginning of the Sugar. Bowl Tennis Tournament with Bobby Riggs, Chicago, the nation’s No. 2 ranking star, favored to come through. Riggs is seeded No. 1 and was slated to play Bill Sutter, New Orleans, in today’s first match. Joe Hunt, Los Angeles, is seeded No. 2, Wayne Sabin, Hollywood, No. 3,
